Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the high-profile and fast-paced Arts & Libraries team, which sits within the Culture & Creative Industries (CCI) directorate. CCI comprises just over a hundred colleagues in three policy teams working across the creative industries, arts, and museums sectors, supported by a team of analysts. Our aim is to protect and promote the long term resilience of the very best of our nation�s cultural and creative assets to ensure they are made available to the widest possible audience, both at home and abroad, to improve the quality of life of individuals, communities and the nation, and promote the UK to the world.

The Arts & Libraries team mission is to engage and support our world-leading arts and culture sector in order to increase the personal, economic and social benefits of culture at a local and national level, through effective public investment and policy making. Recent work in the team has included developing policy proposals on youth and skills, capital funding for the sector, and creative excellence; overseeing and supporting the delivery of several new cultural projects around the country; and sponsoring Arts Council England.

Job description

Sponsorship Advisor (Arts Council England)

This role is focused on the sponsorship of Arts Council England (ACE), which is the largest DCMS arms-length body, with an annual budget of around �440 million. It provides regular funding to around 1000 organisations each year, including household names such as the National Theatre. The postholder will join a dynamic and fast-paced team, where the flexibility to take on different responsibilities at different times, as determined by evolving ministerial and strategic priorities, will be standard. The postholder is likely to focus on:

Working with the Arts Council on key projects to support the delivery of strategic goals over the next 3 years, aligned to the DCMS Secretary of State�s priorities and the strategy of the Arts Council.Leading on responses to queries about publicly funded organisations, to provide and demonstrate assurance, oversight, and information to DCMS senior staff and ministers.Supporting governance of DCMS / Arts Council England Sponsorship relationship, including managing regular sponsorship meetings, and supporting regular ministerial and senior engagement with Arts Council England leadership.

Arts Policy Advisor

This role is focussed on the anticipated upcoming Spending Reviews and other fiscal events. Making the case using a compelling narrative and a robust evidence-base to support Spending Review bids will be a core focus. The postholder will join a dynamic and fast-paced team, where the flexibility to take on different responsibilities at different times, as determined by evolving ministerial and strategic priorities, will be standard. The postholder is likely to focus on:

Acting as the SEO lead for upcoming fiscal event(s), including upcoming Spending Reviews, across the Arts & Libraries team and with other teams, including strategic policy and finance.�Building, managing and maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal - including DCMS profession experts such as finance, commercial and legal - as well as external from across the arts sector and OGDs.Drafting briefings for ministers and senior civil servants, being aware of audience, how to frame and land key messages, adhering to departmental positions.

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

Essential Requirements:

Experience of building strong working relationships, with a track record of using these effectively to deliver positive and high-quality outcomes.Strong problem-solving skills with a delivery-focused approach, with experience of identifying risks and being creative about finding solutions, turning complex issues into a clear set of steps, and being able to put plans in place to deliver these.A highly organised individual with experience both of working autonomously to lead distinct workstreams, and of working collaboratively within and across teams; maintaining a flexible approach to (re)prioritisation when working at pace, under pressure and with senior stakeholders.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to analyse and draw on qualitative and quantitative data sources to write and present clear advice and handle reactive communications.�
