The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, is the UK Government�s lead authority on cyber security. The organisation is at the heart of the Government�s cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and work online.�����

This is an exciting opportunity to join the NCSC�s external communications team as an Assistant Media and Social Media Officer.��

We are looking for a motivatedpersonwho is enthusiastic about delivering impactful and creative communications which inform our audiences about the NCSC�s priorities, our actionable advice and shape the public conversation.�

Job description

You will be part of a dynamic team working across both the press office and social media functions to assist the delivery of proactive announcements and handling of emerging stories and queries from the media.�

You will have the opportunity to identify and shape high-profile and meaningful news stories to help make the UK the safest place to live and work online � from warning about the cyber threat posed by nation states to inspiring the next generation of cyber professionals.�

With assistance from senior colleagues, you will craft plans for communicating the NCSC�s priorities, products and advice, and work closely with counterparts across the organisation and Whitehall to maximise their effectiveness and manage risks.�

You will draft communications products including press releases, social media posts and reactive statements; engage with journalists seeking input for their stories; and contribute to briefings for NCSC seniors.�

Some occasional travel will be expected to help with public engagements and work with partners.�

Dependent on working hours arrangements, there will be an expectation that the successful candidate will join an on-call duty rota operating outside of core business hours for which additional allowances are payable.

Person specification

The successful candidate will need to have:

Sound written skills, where they can present technical information in a compelling and informative way.�A keen interest in the news agenda of the day and the ability to spot stories and emerging issues of interest to the organisation.�Good collaboration skills for working with different stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.�Prior experience in journalism, public relations, or government communications would certainly be advantageous. Appropriate training and support will be provided as required.

You�ll receive a starting salary of �34,663.��

For roles based in London, you�ll receive an additional �6,250 London Allowance.��
