Chatham, Kent, United Kingdom Southern Education Recruitment Ltd Full time

Southern Education Recruitment are currently working with a SEN school located in the Chatham area who are looking for experienced SEN Teaching Assistants. An SEMH school providing education to pupils across secondary year groups up to KS4; TAs will need to have a flexible and adaptable working ethos to support in this environment.

Whilst a background within SEN is desirable, if you have experience or feel confident in at least two of the following please get in touch:

  • Youth Offending Services
  • Experience supporting young people in an AP/PRU setting
  • Team Teach/SKIP, CPI, MAPA Physical Intervention Training
  • Emotionally robust

The Role:

  • Teaching Assistant (Social, Emotional, Mental Health)

  • September 2024
  • Duration: Long-term Supply with a view to apply for a permanent contract
  • Daily Rate: 90 per day (depending on experience)

The School:

All the students at the school have an EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan), with a primary need of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). Some exhibit very challenging behaviour and Mainstream schooling is not always the most appropriate setting for them. Sometimes their first encounter of school has been chaotic and certainly challenging, many have had a fragmented education and have fallen behind their peers academically. This often results in self-esteem issues and anti-social behaviour.

With small classes and amazing staff that truly understand SEMH, the school feel that once a student starts, they have every opportunity to turn their lives around. Every child has the right to achieve and they believe that every parent and carer has the right to expect that the school will do its very best for their child. With this in mind, the staff work closely with parents and carers and other agencies to help each student make positive choices and changes which will serve them better in their future.

A key feature that the school try to adopt is teaching the students to take responsibility for their behaviour and consequences. The staff teach them to try and put things right when they go wrong, together with learning the values of tolerance and respect for themselves and others.

If you are interested in this role, please send your CV over. All candidates will be subject to the necessary vetting and background checks.

All candidates must:

  • Be able to commit to working the hours specified above.
  • Provide an enhanced DBS registered on the update service. If you do not hold a valid DBS be willing to apply for a new DBS. The cost of a DBS is a one-off payment of 38 with an annual subscription of 13 per year to the DBS Update Service.
