Job summary

Working within the Internal Communications team, part of the wider Communications Division, the post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering internal communication products to support our Imperial Experience programme.

The Internal Communications Coordinator's work will support Imperial's wider internal communications strategy. Through managing regular communications with staff and students, their objectives are to facilitate student and staff engagement, build a sense of community, and use Imperial's channels to share information from its leadership and central divisions.

This is a new role, established to enhance the coordination and communication for all students, with a focus on supporting students (of all types) as they join and progress through Imperial to alumni, reflecting all our provision and locations. This work will enhance the coordination of Imperial's communication with all its students, including providing a range support for the annual Welcome events.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To provide support with the delivery of high-level communication products to support the Imperial Experience programme.
  • To support with the continuous improvement of internal communications within Imperial by maintaining and developing new channels and resources of communication.
  • To support internal communications campaigns, including commissioning design assets and digital content for social media.
  • To support internal communications across Imperial, advising our community of newsletter owners and coordinating the Internal Communications Network.
  • To work with colleagues across Imperial to consolidate existing communications activities around student support/guidance, whilst helping to enhance communications at other Imperial campuses beyond South Kensington.
  • Act as a first point of contact for all general queries from staff and students, responding in a timely manner and escalating where appropriate.
  • Coordinate services to monitor communications activities and assist in the production of evaluation purposes.

Essential requirements

Education

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and/or professional experience related to the work of this post

Experience

  • Experience of working in communications in a complex organisation with diverse audiences in a position such as Internal Communications Assistant, Communications Assistant, Communications and Events Assistant
  • Experience of supporting or managing projects or processes
  • Experience of drafting or writing communications material such as newsletter content, news stories, web content or presentations
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluating communications activities, preparing reports and presentations, supporting working groups and analysing data
  • Experience of working in a busy office, or an environment that requires the need to balance competing requests for assistance

Knowledge

  • Excellent IT literacy (Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with an ability to balance conflicting
  • deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure, with limited direct supervision, to strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent writing, proofing and editing skills
  • Ability to exercise initiative and plan work independently
  • Excellent standards of accuracy, consistency and attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and from different backgrounds
