WHAT TO EXPECT

Vehicle Structures are responsible for the design and development of all JLR Body in White (BIW) Structures, employing a range of materials and techniques, e.g., sheet metal stampings, castings, extrusions, forgings and adhesives. We also manage the component and proto-type supplier base to ensure timing & project control is maintained. Strategies developed will also be applicable to other exterior metals commodities (e.g. Lids and Doors)

We are one of the few departments in JLR which are fully make to print' and so are fully responsible for our own CAD and engineering and its quality.

The successful candidate will report Core Strategy Group Leader, although working within the off-cycle squad they will have significant input and support requirement for all on-cycle programmes. The role is the support and coordination of materials solutions to deliver function, mass, cost and sustainability targets into vehicle commodities and programmes. Although primarily a materials strategy role, the impact of exteriors metallic commodities means delivery of Science Based Targets and Net Zero will be the key challenge of this role.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Ensure key strategic changes and lessons learned are captured into key business processes including but not limited to Bill of Design (BoD), Evidence Based Engineering Review (EBER) and Sourcing Board Review (SBRs).
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to embed a material strategy that meets all targets into vehicle programmes and commodities through the Programme Strategy and Commodity Strategy Review phases.
  • Work with Materials Engineering and Manufacturing to develop, prioritise and drive validation of new materials
  • Lead material and sustainability related benchmarking/futuring activity as required to build business rationale.
  • Promote sustainability best practices across the team and business in line with material sustainability strategy.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills
  • Knowledge of automotive BIW design, stampings and body construction.
  • Good communication and presentation skills to all levels
  • PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lucid.
