The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Assistant Knitwear and Jersey Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic and creative design team and develop skills across a wide variety of design functions. Working across multiproduct categories to support and contribute creatively to an exciting and forward-thinking brand. The assistant designer will be involved in all elements of the successful creation of the JW Anderson collections and will develop their existing knowledge and skillset across Knitwear and jersey. We offer a highly creative and fast paced environment with great learning and development opportunities. The right candidate will thrive within a creatively challenging, collaborative and fast paced atmosphere.

Responsibilities:

  • Collection research – including vintage, editorial, books, galleries, museums, markets etc
  • Draping, 3D design and realisation of designs in house for proposal to the CD and for launching styles
  • Creation of seasonal linesheets
  • Generating creative swatches by machine/ hand knit/ crochet/fabric manipulation in-house
  • Supporting the Knitwear and Jersey Design team in multiple creative and organizational functions
  • Maintaining seasonal yarn and fabric boards in line with developments
  • Making swatches/ mock-ups/ trials in house for finishing details and launch examples
  • Sketching styles for launch packs
  • Colouring up sketches and looks images for creative proposals and launch sheets in photoshop
  • Illustrator artworks for jacquards, intarsias, ribs etc
  • Embroidery and artwork placements
  • Maintaining the archiving vintage and inhouse styles
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation boards.
  • Ensuring the upkeep of the yarn cupboards and design studio
  • Support during meetings with the CD and stylist
  • Participate in fittings and show preparation
  • Work closely with the product development teams to support realisation of styles

    About You:
    • A designer with a creative, collaborative and proactive attitude
    • Previous experience within a design team, ideally within knitwear and jersey (1-2 years' experience is preferred).
    • Knitwear knowledge – we offer the opportunity to develop and build on skillset working with a creative and knowledgeable PD and design team
    • Able to work across multiple projects and remain organised
    • Good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
    • Interested in the JW Anderson aesthetic and how to continuously bring newness while maintaining the JWA magic
    • Experience in pattern cutting, 3D shape development and garment making
    • Knitting machine and Sewing machine skills
    • Strong team worker bringing energy and passion to the role
    • Ability to work independently in a creative capacity when required
    • High level attention to detail
    • Flexible with new processes and ways of working with the ability to pivot to new projects and concepts
