We are looking to recruit a Lead Health & Safety Adviser to provide comprehensive health and safety advice, training, instruction and information across the University. This will include:

  • Providing expert guidance in the field of the management and use of hazardous substances at the University such as chemical, biological and radiological.
  • Supporting academics and teaching staff in meeting their Health and Safety responsibilities by supporting them in areas such as risk assessment and COSHH.
  • Provide comprehensive advice and support in the maintenance and improvement of Health & Safety compliance across the University.
  • Playing an important role assisting the department in promoting a health and safety culture across the University with a strong emphasis on coaching and training.

Our new approach to Health and Safety management and our ambitious plans for the future, make this an exciting time to join the University's Health & Safety Department. We are seeking a candidate with a proven ability to influence and succeed within a complex environment.

Experience of working in the field of chemical / biological safety is essential as is experience of responsibility for Health & Safety compliance. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise and manage your workload to meet deadlines.

Educated to degree level in a scientific subject coupled with a minimum of a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and Chartered Membership of IOSH, the successful applicant will also have a good working knowledge and application of Health & Safety legislation.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston.
