Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

Join Our Team at the World-Leading CRUK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI)

Are you ready to make a difference in the fight against cancer? Join our dynamic and pioneering department at the renowned University of Cambridge, where we push the boundaries of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. We are excited to invite applications for a passionate and qualified Scientific Associate or Senior Scientific Associate (depending on your experience) to join our expanding Proteomics Facility.

Why you'll love working with us:

  • Cutting-edge research: CRUK CI engages with world-class technology platforms to tackle critical questions in cancer research.
  • Impactful work: Our aim is to be a focus for the practical application of high-quality basic research, forming a bridge between the world-class science of the University of Cambridge and its environment, and Addenbrooke's Hospital.
  • State-of-the-art Proteomics facility: Our Proteomics facility specialises in the systematic study of proteins (particularly their structures, interactions and expression levels), leveraging advanced instrumentation to provide support to research groups within the Cambridge institute - and across the University more broadly - that require access to proteomics technology and expertise.

What we offer:

  • Career growth: Join a facility with a stellar track record in nurturing early research careers, and an Institute where many leading scientists began their journeys.
  • Supportive environment: Benefit from the support of an experienced team who will be fully invested in your success and professional development.
  • Dynamic growth: Be part of our journey as we expand our proteomics capabilities and make significant scientific advancements.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and innovate: Provide leadership in project prioritisation, troubleshoot complex issues, and respond to requests from senior Institute or collaboration staff.
  • Hands-on expertise: Help to define and support diverse assays and contribute to the development and implementation of novel/innovative methods in proteomics. You will also use your analytical skills to evaluate projects and feed back into method/study design.
  • Collaborate and inspire: Work closely with internal and external collaborators whilst having a flexible and cooperative approach to working, and possess the ability to mentor, motivate and inspire others.
  • Drive technical development: Participate in technical development projects that enhance our Proteomics facility and institute's scientific contributions.

What we need from you:

  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of quantitative proteomic techniques.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with multiple cutting-edge mass spectrometers (preferably Orbitrap mass spectrometers: QExactive HF, Fusion Lumos, Orbitrap Ascend).
  • Experience with statistical or computational methods would also be very desirable.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in analytical chemistry, one of the life sciences or significant relevant experience.

Skills:

  • Ability to analyse quantitative mass spectrometry data and interpret results.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of personalities and staff at all levels of seniority.
  • Experience of working with R language would also be very desirable.

Innovation:

  • A passion for staying updated with the latest advancements in proteomics and contributing to research publications.

Please ensure that you outline how you match the criteria for the post and why you are applying for this role on the online application form.

Please include details of your referees, including email address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager.

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
