Pupil Support Leader - Fixed term until 26/06/2025

Salary: £59,481 (pro-rata for part time)

Tynecastle High School is a six-year comprehensive secondary school which has served west-central Edinburgh with distinction for over 100 years. The school moved to a fantastic new site in January 2010 and has first class educational facilities. The school is thoroughly rooted in its local communities, with learners drawn from Craiglockhart, Dalry, Stenhouse and Balgreen Primary Schools.

The school roll is currently around 828. The school offers a wide range of subjects and successfully presents students for SQA exams at all levels. There is a strong sense of pride in the school demonstrated by students, staff and parents. A bank of strategies support the successful integration of pupils with a wide range of needs and abilities in the school and the curriculum.

The SfP team consists of a three promoted staff, each responsible for a House, a Support for Learning Leader and a Support for Learning teacher. The team are line managed by the DHT Pupil Support. There is a strong and established partnership working with a range of organisations, including Place2Be, the Green Team and Skill Force. All staff are trained in Restorative Practice. A bank of strategies and our Learning Hub support the successful integration of pupils with a wide range of needs and abilities in the school and the curriculum.

Pupil Support Leaders are members of the Leadership Team within Tynecastle High School and provide high quality pupil support with the ultimate aim of maximising attainment for all students. They are responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of effective pupil support policies and procedures within the school. They will be expected to keep up to date with current theories and practice relating to effective support and inclusive classroom teaching.

Pupil Support Leaders are currently allocated up to 50% of their time as pupil contact time. S/he will be forward thinking and innovative in terms of leading, managing and delivering the most appropriate PSE and HWB courses to all levels of ability at all stages in the school. The post-holder will work as part of an integrated support team. They will have a proven track-record in building relationships and working with partners to deliver positive outcomes for young people.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
