What You'll Be Doing

This is an exciting new role placed within our Health and Wellbeing Department where you will take a lead role in developing evidence-based policies, strategies, and innovative ways of improving health and health equity for Camden's next generation. You will play a leadership role in a number of transformational projects, both as a system leader and a subject matter expert.

As Public Health Senior Strategist you will have a deep understanding of issues relating to equality and equity and experience of specific practices to address these issues. You will have experience of engaging local communities and working in wider partnership to affect change in these areas.

This role involves collaborating with the Institute of Health Equity, and wider external stakeholders, to apply and generate new evidence. You will assess and evaluate opportunities to promote child health equity within policy, strategy, systems, and services. Working within Family Hubs and locality networks to promote the principles of equity and inclusion will be core to your role.

Additionally, you will oversee the establishment and maintenance of our Communities of Practice, ensure our strategies are influenced by a diversity of children and young people's voices. You will work with across the Health and Wellbeing department to strengthen our collective capacity in addressing health equity and be a consistent advocate for this approach across the council and its wider partnership.

All About You

We are looking for an experienced individual who holds a master's in Public Health, or higher degree in a related subject, or evidence of CPD in Public Health and documented experience at master's level practice. You will also have substantial experience in a public health role including leadership of projects and programmes and proven experience delivering Public Health initiatives to tackle inequalities, preferably in a local authority setting but not essential.

We're also looking for someone who holds an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of various organisations and actors in health protection and improvement, including council partners, NHS partners, the university sector, local communities, elected members, and government departments. You must possess high-standard communication skills to present complex information clearly too diverse audiences, contribute to reports that inform strategic decision-making, and synthesise complex data for public health goals. Additionally, you should have the motivation to develop and improve skills in public health, and a commitment to the Council's equality, diversity, and inclusion policies in line with the Public Sector Equality Duty.
