This role provides an exciting opportunity for an aspiring producer to gain experience across artist development, producing & touring, and marketing in dance.

The Place, London's creative powerhouse for dance development, has been leading the way in dance training, creation and performance for over 50 years. In a changing landscape, their mission for the future remains steadfast: they are powering imagination through dance, championing new ideas, embracing risks and creating optimal conditions for dance artists and enthusiasts to realise their full potential.

The producing & marketing trainee will be part of the team at The Place which supports artists to develop their practice & realise their ideas.

Throughout this traineeship, the successful trainee will learn the necessary skills to be a confident arts producer, working with artists and expert producers in their field to grow and start their career journey. The trainee will also learn valuable marketing skills.

Key activities

Producing and touringHelp the Producing and Touring Assistant Producer with organising press and guest nights, workshops and pre- or post-show events.Organise meetings with external partners and artists.Assist the Projects Producers with managing auditions.Support the Projects Producers with financial administration tasks (for example, coding invoices, administering per diems, and collating receipts).Alongside the Projects Producers, build relationships with key stakeholders, artists, and venues. Support the Projects Producers to create tour packs for artists and production teams.Keep the project management documents (e.g. schedules, planning documents) up to date.Undertake contract administration tasks (for example sending out project contracts).Attend shows on tour and in The Place theatre.Support the Producing and Touring Assistant Producer with booking travel & accommodation and creating tour packs for artists on tour across the UK and internationally.Make purchases (e.g. props, costumes) as directed by the Projects Producers within budgets.Support artists in rehearsal (for example, by sourcing props).Artist development Liaising and maintaining good relationships with a variety of artists at different career stages, e.g. Work Place Artists, Choreodrome Artists, Resolution Artists.Assist the Artist Development Producer in supporting artists working in the studios at The Place (for example, by organising equipment they might need).Support the planning and delivery of Artist Development events including Artist Led Labs, Choreodrome Lunch and artist workshops (for example, arranging catering, or updating the list of attendees).Support the Artist Development Producer with organising studio bookings.Monitor the Artist Development email inbox and respond to queries.Post opportunities for artists on The Place's opportunities site.Support the Artist Development Producer with financial administration tasks (for example, coding invoices, administering per diems and collating receipts).Support the Artist Development Producer on contracting artists, facilitators and access workers.Attend artist's studio sharings at The Place and nationally.Support the Artist Development Producer with open calls (for example processing applications; arranging interviews, creating application forms).MarketingSupport on the creation of promotional/marketing packs, making sure information remains up to date.Monitor and update content on The Place's website.Support the Marketing Manager to collate and format information about touring productions.Develop social media content for Producing and Touring productions and Artist Development and support the Communications team in scheduling this content.Support the Marketing Manager to liaise with touring venues about their print and digital requirements and set up sales reports.Support International Development Manager and Marketing Manager to collate and format information about touring productions and artist development opportunities, ready to be sent to internal and external mailing lists.Take notes for Artist Development and Producing & Touring marketing meetings.GeneralAttend team and cross organisational meetings, taking notes when required.Administrative support for the Head of Producing & Programmes (for example, arranging meetings, organising travel). What we're looking forGood knowledge of the performing arts in the UK.An interest in developing a career in arts producing, specifically in producing contemporary dance.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of people in person by telephone and email with professionalism.Excellent and demonstrable organisational skills.Good IT skills (Microsoft Office) and knowledge of social media.Experience of project coordination and/or administrative work.Ability to plan, prioritise and organise activities and tasks with an adaptable approach to managing workload in a busy environment.Strong attention to detail.Commitment to high levels of care for artists, especially in busy and/or high-pressured situations.Commitment to ongoing development of own skills and abilities.Willingness to travel.
