The role

Northeastern University London invites applications for a Teaching Assistant in Engineering. The appointees will support Engineering teaching at the University, primarily at undergraduate level (Level 4). Appointments will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated ability to support teaching.

Core duties include:

  • Lead laboratory sessions, under the guidance and/or supervision of subject expert faculty
  • Support students during lab sessions, recitation sessions, or both
  • Assist with equipment set-up and tear-down during lab sessions
  • Marking of formative and summative assignments, commensurate with qualifications
  • Complete required training, and attend coordination meetings
  • Respond to or forward student queries, as appropriate

About the Faculty

The recently formed Faculty of Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences (CoMENS) is undergoing significant growth at Northeastern University London. Person Specification Criteria

Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area
  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (desirable)
  • AFHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)

Key Criteria

  • Demonstrates, through evidence, ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in teaching
  • Ability to provide excellent, personalised support to students in a lab-based setting
  • Flexibility and capacity to support course leaders in providing excellent educational provision to students, including opportunities for experiential learning
  • Core knowledge of the subject material to at least Level 6 (i.e., up to final year undergraduate level)
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills, both face-to-face and online
  • Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
