What you'll do

A position has opened up for an exceptional Automation Engineer to join our Infrastructure Delivery Engineering team. If you thrive in an autonomous environment where you are empowered to make decisions, are free to experiment and have an outstanding team to support you then this is the role for you.

As an engineer within the Delivery Engineering team, you will be responsible for the development and support of Sky Betting & Gaming's internal PaaS toolset. We're looking for an excellent communicator who is excited by technology, with an ability to explain technical information to non-experts. As part of the role, you will be providing support via Slack to our internal customers, and working with the latest technologies to develop the toolset driven by business priorities and internal customer requirements.

How you'll do it

We work using Agile methodologies including Sprint Planning, Jira, and Kanban. Our goal is to identify areas where we can make efficiencies and avoid future workload by suggesting solutions that complement our existing tooling strategy.

As an Automation Engineer, you will:

  • Design develop, support and optimise the toolset, including Elasticsearch ECE clusters, Hashicorp Vault, terraform, AWS and in-house developed applications
  • Design and implement projects for new automation and shared tooling
  • Develop in GoLang, Groovy, Ruby and various other languages when appropriate
  • Support other teams with automation and shared toolset queries and requests
  • Support and develop our PaaS automation toolset
  • Work closely with other teams, implementing changes that help improve speed and release quality
  • Be responsible for reviews of platform code changes, approving or suggesting improvements to authors as appropriate
  • Own issues from initial diagnosis through to implementation of a fix
  • Challenge and suggest improvements to existing systems or processes on an ongoing basis
  • Own improvements to the tools, following the software development lifecycle through test and into live
  • Help ensure our services meet their service level objectives through automated monitoring and alerting. You will proactively investigate the performance of our services to identify improvements
  • The ideal candidate will be able to look at a system end to end and make informed recommendations on how to implement improvements for its stability, scalability and performance
  • Keep up to date with the latest open source technology and best practise, and suggest areas where new tools or practise can help the business achieve its goals
