Abatec are currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client, a tier one civil engineering contractor, to work from their office in Exeter.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a company that works in a regulated environment where this is security of work on long-term frameworks. The successful individual will be working on a 2.8bn programme across the South West in collaboration with multiple contractors on the framework.

The framework will initially run for a 6 year period with a further 5 year extension opportunity, potentially taking their partnership through to 2035, ensuring longevity of works.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will:

  • Ensure the timely submission of all relevant data required to monitor and analyse individual contract performance on a monthly and quarterly basis thereafter.
  • Liaise with Contracts Managers on the day-to-day commercial administration of contracts to ensure the financial success of construction operations and to keep the Commercial Manager appraised of all material events.
  • Prepare accurate draft sub-contracts and/or to approving such drafts as prepared by Commercial Team within the Region.
  • Supervise, mentor and encourage junior staff in their personal professional development.
  • Ensure consultation with contracts management that all necessary notices and submissions required by the various forms of contract are given in an expedient manner.
  • Ensure that main contract payment applications contain all necessary admeasure/additional cost claims and that the timely submission of detailed claims and final accounts is achieved.
  • Assist Contracts Manager in the administration of sub-contractor performance so as to ensure the economic and timely completion of all sub-contractor liabilities written into the sub-contract.
  • Ensure prompt and regular submission of main contract payment applications and subsequent cash collection together with the preparation of sub-contractor payments (strictly in accordance with specified payment terms).
  • Be involved in dispute avoidance/resolution.
  • Be responsible for managing meetings.

Our client requires a Senior Quantity Surveyor with:

  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar.
  • Experience of working for a Civil Engineering contractor ideally within utilities/water.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A thorough understanding of NEC form of contracts.
  • Proficient knowledge of measurement and valuation.
  • Proficient in reading drawings, specifications and knowledge of construction process.
  • Ability to negotiate with clients/sub contractors and draft sub contracts.
  • Knowledge of CIS.
  • Ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports and outturn financial forecasts.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Awareness of dispute procedures.
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments and valuation of them in conjunction with other project team members.
  • Extensive experience of working on live projects and final accounts
  • Experience of value engineering.
  • Exposure to resolving disputes.
  • Successfully completed a number of final accounts.
  • Experience of procuring major works sub contracts
  • Professional membership of recognised institute e.g. RICS (desirable)
