The Barbour story began in 1894 in South Shields in the North East of England. Founder John Barbour began supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen and dockers. Still family owned and now fifth generation, Barbour HQ remains in South Shields. Under the leadership of Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, Barbour has grown into a lifestyle brand sold in over 55 countries worldwide including Europe, the US and Asia offering a wardrobe of stylish functional clothing, footwear and accessories inspired by the unique values of the British countryside. The iconic Barbour Bedale and Barbour Beaufort wax jackets continue to be made by hand in the factory in South Shields. In 2020, Barbour launched Wax for Life, an overarching name for all of Barbour's wax services designed to encourage customers to extend the life of their wax garments. Wax for Life includes re-waxing and repairs (first introduced in 1921) and Barbour Re-Loved an upcycling circularity initiative. Each year over 70,000 wax garments are sent back to Barbour globally to be repaired, rewaxed or altered.
Position Overview:
We are currently recruiting for a Photography Manager to join our dynamic and fast-paced Studio team on a temporary Maternity Cover based at our inhouse studio, South Shields. This role will manage our team of photographers and retouchers to create world class imagery, and work as part of the wider studio team to create industry leading ecommerce & marketing assets across the Barbour brands. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a busy ecommerce photography studio and experience of managing photographers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage our team of in-house photographers/ retouchers to deliver world-class imagery for a dynamic studio team. Responsible for training and development of our team of photographers & retouchers, sourcing and briefing in all external consultants. Create a customised plan for each team member based on abilities and see a positive upskill by end of year reviews and 360 feedback. Inspire and lead by example through a culture of continuous improvement in order deliver world-class ecommerce assets. Be the authority on shooting, retouch and attitude as well as a role model for all areas. Manage & continuously develop the studio's technical specifications relating to photography, lighting and retouch. Ensure that all creative & commercial photographic standards/processes are understood and met by the photography team, including all archiving systems. Work closely with the Senior Studio Producer to agree & execute the workload of our photography team, ensuring that daily/weekly tasks are achieved to the highest standards and deadlines are met. Delegate Ad Hoc Photography tasks effectively throughout the team to ensure critical path is always on time. Responsible for all quality control of imagery produced in the studio by photography and retouch team. This includes naming, crops, retouch quality and handover admin. Responsible for management and communication of the studio's annual kit budget. Responsible for updating and executing the studio 'shoot bible'. Work closely with the Production Team to ensure all deadlines are met and pre/post shoot processes are followed. Responsible for the management of the Photography and Retouch holidays in relation to the studio critical path being managed. Work closely with our Digital Team to ensure that all DTC projects are delivered on-time and to brief. QC'ing all imagery and ensuring naming is correct. Conduct regular 121's, annual reviews, objective setting of photography team with the Studio & Production Manager. Responsible for the maintenance/up-keep of all studio equipment. Undertake any other reasonable activity, as may be required by senior management Skills and Experience:
Degree or Higher Qualification in Photography Relevant experience working in a busy fashion retail ecommerce environment An expert in on and off-model ecommerce photography Previous management experience is essential An expert knowledge of photography, retouching and lighting techniques is essential An extremely high competence of using Photoshop & Capture One Confidence in training others on photographic and retouching techniques High competence using MAC Operating systems High competence using Microsoft Office (Excel/PPT) A self-motivated leader who is able to take and give direction A confident hard worker who is always strives for the best end-result Exemplary attention to detail Benefits:
