As a Patient Service Assistant at Sodexo in North Devon District Hospital, you are a key member of the Ward facilities team, providing a helpful and courteous catering service whilst maintaining a clean, hygienic environment. Your daily interaction with patients on the ward, will assist in ensuring what can be a stressful time is made easier for our patients, visitors and our staff. What you'll do:

  • Assist in the preparation/regeneration of patient meals whilst ensuring compliance of Food Hygiene regulations
  • Ensure company expectations are met, this includes recording any necessary temperatures prior to service.
  • Adhere to any special dietry requirements patients may have, ensuring meals served meet the necessary requirement for that patient.
  • Preparation and service of a range of snacks, hot and cold beverages must be available to patients as instructed by nursing staff.
  • Clear and wash cutlery and crockery following service, ensuring level of cleanliness and hygiene for all equipment within the ward kitchens are compliant with company standards and expectations
  • Household waste to be handled in accordance with the Trust's Infection Control and Waste Disposal policies.
  • Carry out general cleaning tasks i.e., damp dusting of all furniture, fixtures, fittings, skirting, and interior glass doors and high dusting of walls, ledges, perimeter fittings, and paintwork.
  • Clean all sanitary fittings and fixtures and replenish consumables i.e., paper towels, toilet rolls, soap etc.

What you bring:

  • A team player with superb communication skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role is a bonus, but a can-do attitude and complete customer focus will tick the box.
  • Approachable, compassionate, and friendly personality - The position holder will regularly form close bonds with long-term patients and their families. Dealing with Patient deterioration and Bereavement may have an emotional impact on the postholder.
  • Food hygiene level 2 or above would be great, but don't worry if you don't have this, we are still keen to hear from you.

  • 12.75 hours per week
  • Week 1: Wednesday 17:00-20:00, Thursday 17:00-20:00, Saturday 16:30 - 20:00, Sunday 16:30-20:00
  • Week 2: Monday 17:00 - 20:00, Tuesday 17:00 - 20:00, Friday 17:00 - 20:30
  • £ £20.95 per hour (Weekend enhancements)
