The young peoples separated migrant children services (SMC) are a dedicated team committed to providing supporting and empowering environments for young people aged 16 – 18 years who are under the care of the Local Authority.

In this role as a Scheme Manager, you will provide flexible and responsive support to the young people and frontline staff across 2 services, adapting to their individual needs and circumstances. You will be responsible for leading the team to provide a flexible service, which responds to changing needs. This includes ensuring the home runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis, being involved in driving up quality and moving the service forward with new ideas and acting as a role model for staff at the service.

Where necessary, the C&SH Scheme Manager will promote and ensure that the home complies with Ofsted requirements, fire regulations, safeguarding and Health & Safety legislation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To ensure that the home/scheme adheres to Ofsted requirements and to demonstrate an understanding of the Ofsted standards.
  • To ensure that the emphasis of the homely environment is enhanced and maintained
  • Promote and encourage effective communication between team members including through regular team meetings.
  • Undertake the recruitment and appointment of scheme staff in conjunction with the management team and ensure all relevant recruitment legislation and policies are adhered to.
  • Provide trauma-informed, person-centred support based on a strengths-based approach.
  • Co-produce support plans with young people which meet their needs and support their aspirations.
  • To provide leadership and reassurance to staff when it comes to challenging behaviour and accidents & incidents concerning the young people.
  • To ensure records are completed and maintained on all relevant systems and databases, ensuring GDPR compliance and confidentiality.

    The successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by young people with complex needs and who have experienced trauma, implement risk management plans and contribute to the risk management process and the ability to treat people with respect and dignity, dealing with them fairly and without prejudice regardless of their background or circumstances.
