About us

UCL Medical School's Clinical and Professional Practice (CPP) modules make up 20% of the overall MBBS programme, with learning in CPP central to understanding medicine as an integrated whole.

About the role

The main role of Clinical and Professional Practice Tutors is to facilitate student learning through small group work. This will involve planning and preparing for designated teaching sessions; working with relevant resources to deliver teaching, in close collaboration with CPP Module Leads / Lead CPP Tutors. There will be a small amount of CPP course assessment marking.

Teaching may take place at the Whittington Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and/or on our Bloomsbury campus for Years 1 and 2 and also at Barnet and North Middlesex Hospital for Year 4.

Year 1 tutors have sessions on alternate Thursday mornings (9am-1pm) in the Autumn and Spring Terms (or all weeks if you have two groups). You have the same small group (up to 18 students) all year.

Year 2 tutors have sessions on alternate Friday mornings (9am-1pm) in the Autumn and Spring Terms (or all weeks if you have two groups). You have the same small group (up to 18 students) all year.

Year 4 tutors teach on Thursday afternoons (2-5pm) from 2 to 8 weeks in length (depending on the topic).

We are particularly looking for Year 2 tutors and Year 4 Ethics and Law and Mental Health Specialist Tutors this year. For Year 4 Ethics & Law and Mental Health, we are particularly looking for tutors who are able to teach at North Middlesex.

There are two tutor training mornings each year. Successful candidates will need to be available to attend training on 19th September 2024 and 9th January 2025.

Teaching will start in late September.

Appointment details:

CPP Tutors work and are paid on a sessional basis averaged out across the year. You are expected to teach at least 10 sessions across the academic year (1 session is 4 hours).

The appointment is available from 1st October 2024.

About you

We are looking for professionals with a qualification in healthcare or related industries, who have experience of teaching in healthcare settings. Ideally this will be gained from within an undergraduate programme, or a programme relating to Medical Education.

Knowledge and evidence of commitment to 'Good Medical Practice' are essential, coupled with excellent facilitation skills and the ability to promote reflective practice.
