About the role

The Communications Manager is a pivotal role in ODI's Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) team, responsible for developing creative communications strategies and delivering an exciting convening programme to engage target audiences with ODI research and insight.

From the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings in Davos to the COP summits, this role will be instrumental in ensuring decision making at the most influential international forums is informed by the best of ODI's analysis. They will act as a linchpin in the organisation, leading a cross-institute team of communications professionals to ensure that strategic priorities are translated into innovative and impactful campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with a host of progressive funders and strategic partners to oversee an exciting brief to raise the visibility of priority issues from gender justice to the climate emergency.
  • Developing communications strategies and plans for key priority projects, in line with ODI's institutional priorities.
  • Leading ODI's convening programme, including events and the Think Change podcast, coordinating the work of the public affairs and communications team to deliver to deadline.
  • Supporting the delivery of high-quality events at major international summits.
  • Line managing three Senior Communications Officers and advising communications staff embedded in ODI's programmes, and playing an active role in the public affairs and communications management team.

About you

  • A firm grasp of integrated communications planning, with experience in drawing up and delivering successful public affairs and communications strategies, supported by examples of success
  • Proven track record of delivering high-level events, ideally at an international level
  • A keen creative eye
  • A passion for convening diverse perspectives across a range of formats
  • Ability to write with flair for a range of audiences, from creating viral copy to corresponding with high level dignitaries
  • Attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.
  • Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Experience of working on global affairs and additional language skills are desirable but not essential.
