British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a Communications Support Specialist on a permanent contract. The role is paying up to £57,693.38 per annum and will be based in London, with a requirement to travel across the country as operational demand requires. This role does however offer a blended approach of home and office working.
BTP are the Guardians of the Railway with a bold and ambitious vision to be a world-leading police force that delivers a safe and reliable rail network for all. We are a national police force covering the rail network throughout Great Britain, including the London Underground, ensuring the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year.
As a Communications Support Specialist you will be required to:
- Be the technical expert responsible for the provision of public safety critical systems including Airwave, ICCS and other control room systems.
- Provide expert guidance on the use of BTP Communications systems for pre-planned, spontaneous events and incidents.
- Key point of contact between BTP and Emergency services, Home Office and other Government Agencies.
- Represent the Force nationally and ensuring BTP is fully engaged across the emergency service environment work closely with external partners and suppliers with management of the radio fleet ensuring BTP are fully compliant with security requirements.
- The role is responsible for the technical support of the Airwave radio service delivered to Force Control Rooms in London and Birmingham. This includes 5,000 hand portable, 500 vehicle and fixed Airwave terminals.
The successful candidate should ideally be accredited to ITIL Foundation Level or higher and educated to degree level in a specific IT or engineering discipline or equivalent and the following is desirable:-
- Extensive experience delivering and supporting call handling and dispatch solutions in a safety critical environment.
- Experience in coveriage fault investigation and resolution, as well as working knowledge of TETRA networks.
- Experience in asset management, auditing and compliance.
- Experience of working closely with suppliers to provide specialist technical support to users and stakeholders over multiple sites.
- Experience of incident resolution, requests, changes and problem solving are delivered to agreed SLAs.
- Experience of developing and delivering end user training or documentation relating to portfolio responsibilities.
- ICCS Administration certified ideally NEC DSx.
- Have good personal organisational and task management skills.
- Have a driving licence and be willing to drive company vehicles.
This role is subject to participation in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support and services.
