Working under the guidance of the Head of Academic Services, you will be responsible for the delivery and development of learning and teaching services across all campuses, ensuring a high-quality academic experience for all students through a collaborative approach with the assessments team and the CAPD training department. Additionally, this role involves operational responsibilities and corporate training that support the implementation and administration of academic policies, processes, and systems, ensuring seamless integration between academic and operational functions.

  • Policy Communication: Communicate learning and teaching policies and requirements to academic staff at all campuses, ensuring compliance with OfS registration conditions.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the design and delivery of teaching materials align with the Higher Education Qualifications Framework across campuses.
  • Assessment Management: Approve and oversee the administration of assessments through defined approval processes in collaboration with the assessments team.
  • VLE Publication: Ensure that assessment briefs are published on the VLE prior to the start of teaching across all campuses.
  • Calendar Alignment: Review and align assessment calendars with module specifications at each campus.
  • Reporting: Produce and present learning and teaching reports, such as module and programme monitoring reports, according to institutional schedules, reflecting activities across all campuses.
  • Academic Coherence: Ensure academic coherence across modules and programmes, informed by current research and best practices, promoting a "model for educational gain" and fostering "co-elevation" in educational practices.
  • Regular Reviews: Conduct regular meetings with teaching staff to evaluate content, engagement, and student feedback across campuses.
  • Issue Resolution: Address any concerns about content and delivery with the Programme Leaders and Academic Managers at each campus.

General Responsibilities:

  • Marking Compliance: Ensure marking is carried out in accordance with ESL requirements and external partner policies across all campuses.
  • Turnaround Times: Ensure adherence to marking turnaround times and identify markers' requirements at the setting stage.
  • Calibration Meetings: Conduct calibration meetings with module markers at all campuses.
  • Moderation: Act as moderator to ensure timely completion and consistency of marking across campuses.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure work is moderated according to assessment briefs, marking criteria, and partner university policies.
  • Evaluation Surveys: Collaborate with the Programme Leaders to circulate student evaluation surveys and use feedback to improve module content and delivery across campuses.
  • Academic Misconduct: Manage cases of suspected academic misconduct in collaboration with the Academic Standards Team, Programme Leaders, and Academic Managers at each campus.
  • Student Support Guidance: Provide overarching support and guidance to students, addressing queries relevant to learning and teaching across all campuses.
  • Engagement Monitoring: Monitor student engagement and participation, liaising with relevant colleagues as appropriate, and fostering "co-elevation" in student engagement strategies.

Key Performance Measures

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on the performance of learning and teaching initiatives across diverse student demographics and all campuses.
  • Feedback Utilisation: Ensure high response rates to student feedback mechanisms, including mid-module/end-of-semester surveys, and implement feedback to promote a "model for educational gain."
  • Continuous Improvement: Enhance the quality of teaching, assessment, and feedback based on student perceptions and institutional targets, ensuring consistent application across campuses.
  • Outcome Tracking: Track and report on student outcomes, striving to exceed performance thresholds set by OfS and other regulatory bodies, and ensure outcomes are met across all campuses.

Personal Development

  • Training and Development: Engage in continuous professional development activities, including attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions relevant to learning and teaching management across campuses.
  • Scholarly Engagement: Participate in scholarly activities related to the field of higher education and pedagogy to enhance personal knowledge and skills.
  • Networking: Develop and maintain professional networks within the higher education sector to stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in learning and teaching.
  • Performance Review: Regularly review personal performance in line with ESL's professional development framework and seek feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Professional Memberships: Consider obtaining or maintaining memberships with relevant professional bodies to support ongoing professional development.
  • Mentorship: Actively seek opportunities for mentorship, both as a mentor to colleagues and as a mentee to learn from more experienced professionals
