We have openings for cover staff in a modern core facility setting (two posts are available for 12 months each). Our Advanced Cytometry Platform team seek new members to support users with sophisticated cytometry instruments and services as a Senior Research Technician.
Our core facility is in central London, on the Guy's Hospital campus at London Bridge, SE1 9RT. We are part of the R&D Department at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, one of the focal points for innovative research in London. Our team support self-service and staff-operated services on 15 analysers and sorters, including FACSDiscover S8/ FACSAria/ Fortessa/ CytoFLEX plus high parameter fluorescent, spectral and imaging flow (Symphony, Aurora, ImageStream), Luminex as well as Mass Cytometry (Helios) and Imaging Mass Cytometry (Hyperion). This is a great environment, working with the latest equipment and suiting candidates with skills in cell biology, immunology, inflammatory diseases or cancer as well as cytometry. Many of our users are basic, translational or clinical researchers from our partnership with King's College London. The new team members will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of one or more core lab instruments for cell sorting and/or analysis and providing support to users.
Prior knowledge and hands on experience in a core lab in either of the following areas would be key to quick engagement with our service:
(1) BD Aria sorters and Diva software, working knowledge of multicolour flow.
(2) Mass cytometry using a Helios, ideally with experience in antibody tagging.
You should be proficient in PBMC prep and tissue culture. Ideally you have experience in assay development and supporting customer projects and internal development. Being approachable is vital, our customers appreciate responsive advice and assistance. Prior knowledge of all aspects of multi-colour flow (panel design, titration, staining, controls etc) is essential. You will support the development of high parameter assays and will be an expert operator on systems that are used for our service delivery.
You should have a BSc, postgrad is desirable but not essential, with hands-on experience for the technologies we use and a track record in a flow core lab prioritised. We are keen to see candidates trained on BD Aria systems.
