Position Overview

We are seeking a Lead Research Technician to support the "Therapeutic vulnerabilities in solid tumors and sarcoma group" led by Dr. Sophie Postel-Vinay.

The selected candidate will have the chance to contribute to a newly established research group, collaborating with a vibrant team at UCL Eastman Dental Institute. This innovative program focuses on the development and assessment of novel therapeutic strategies aimed at addressing highly aggressive sarcomas that currently lack effective treatments, utilizing small molecules and antibody-based methods at the intersection of DNA repair, chromatin dynamics, and anti-tumor immunity.

The individual in this role will engage in various laboratory activities, playing a crucial part in the research project while ensuring the laboratory operates efficiently, in close partnership with the Principal Investigator and the research team.

Funding and Duration

This position is initially funded for a two-year term, with the potential for extension based on project needs.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree with relevant laboratory experience or a Master’s degree in Cancer Biology, Hematology, or a related field (or nearing completion) or a higher qualification. A solid grasp of Cancer Biology and Genetics is crucial, alongside proficiency in molecular biology techniques, genetic modification, cloning, and in vitro cellular experimentation.

The applicant should demonstrate experience in laboratory management, showcasing strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Essential skills include Aseptic tissue culture (cancer cell lines; co-cultures), Molecular biology techniques (protein extraction, quantification, western blotting, immunoprecipitation), RNA analysis (extraction, RT-qPCR, sequencing), multiparametric flow cytometry, and imaging (immunofluorescence).

Experience with animal handling and the establishment of animal models (including procedures such as subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and intravenous injections) is desirable.
