Purpose

To support the school in managing the needs of students who require particular support to overcome behavioural, emotional or social barriers to learning in order for them to engage fully with learning in a mainstream context.

Kings Heath Boys is a school at an exciting stage of its journey with a new build development, which opened in September 2021. We pride ourselves on our balanced approach, which goes into breadth, depth and beyond. Our superb pastoral and inclusion teams ensure that we meet the individual needs of every learner.

Kings Heath Boys School is a maintained school for 11-16 year olds. We have places for 792 pupils increasing to 840 pupils. From September 2024 the school will be changing designation from a single sex school to a coeducational school.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and it is the positive community cohesion in our school which we celebrate. We have high expectations of our students in terms of attendance, punctuality, effort and willingness to take an active role in school life. School fosters a happy, caring environment where students feel safe to achieve the very best they can. Strong partnerships exist between the school, the students, their families and the community. We are looking for an experienced individual who possesses effective communication skills, a willingness to learn and an enthusiasm for working with young people are essential as well as an approachable and professional manner. A sense of humour is essential, as is the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment with many interruptions.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage the student refocus room within the school, including direct call outs to behaviour incidents

  • to meet & greet students who have been placed into the refocus room
  • provide Pastoral support and guidance to students within the room and assist in their behavioural, emotional and social development
  • to manage and create a calm working atmosphere with the minimum of disturbance and confrontation whilst applying the whole school expectations assertively and fairly
  • to undertake comprehensive assessments of students to determine those in need of particular support and target personalised interventions which you will develop and deliver
