Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

This exciting 16-month post is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual who is keen to develop their qualitative and palliative and end of life care research skills.

We are looking for a colleague to work with Dr Ben Bowers, Wellcome Post-Doctoral Fellow and Palliative Care Nurse Consultant, Professor Stephen Barclay, Professor of Palliative Care and colleagues on two complimentary research projects.

1) Developing a qualitative study exploring how healthcare professionals can best support members of often under-served Muslim communities with end-of-life symptom control. This involves helping co-design the study with public contributors from Muslim communities and preparing competitive grant applications.

2) A qualitative study investigating the use of injectable end-of-life symptom control medications at home, involving interviews and focus groups with patients, families and healthcare professionals. The post holder will assist colleagues with the analysis stages. This study is part of a larger Wellcome project and will help advance understanding of where and how systems for using injectable medications can be improved.

We are looking for candidates with experience of developing sensitive research with under-served communities, qualitative/mixed methods research skills and an interest in clinically focused UK palliative and end of life care research. The successful candidate will be a member of PELiCam, a friendly, dynamic and inclusive leading Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group. They will have access to a community of researchers and supported to advance their skills and competences in this exciting interdisciplinary field.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in health, sociology or psychology-related subject or equivalent qualifications or possess equivalent experience in a relevant discipline and experience of working in a research environment. Practical experience in conducting palliative care research and engaging sensitively with under-represented communities is essential, ideally including members of Muslim communities. They should demonstrate adeptness in collaborative teamwork, effective communication with public contributors, clinical and research colleagues, conducting literature reviews, qualitative research methods and analyses, presenting research to various audiences, and writing successful grant applications.

The post is funded for 16 months at 40% FTE (15 hours per week), requiring the post-holder to work in the Department for at least one to two days per week. You'll be based in the Primary Care Unit, East Forvie Building, Cambridge Biomedical Campus (approx. 2 miles south of city centre).
