London, Greater London, United Kingdom The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Council Full time

About Us:

Deliver projects that elevate everyday life in a Royal Borough.

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and businesses at the heart of everything we do. With a c.£2.5m budget, our Transportation and Highways Capital Projects team has a huge impact on residents' daily lives. Aside from the professional pride of delivering these often-complex projects; this is also an opportunity to enhance some of the world's most famous streets: from Albert Bridge to Portobello Road, Kensington High Street to Exhibition Road.

The Role:

As well transport, cycling and road safety-related schemes, the team also manages around 25 projects each year for other departments, private developers, and ward councillors.

For you, this means challenges of varying sizes and complexity. We will expect you to add value right from the design stage – so good AutoCAD are a must. Then, the focus will be on compiling Bills of Quantity, leading stakeholder engagement, supervising site works and keeping on top of budgets.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

A relevant HNC or Degree is essential. However, this is a challenge for an engineer with a track record of successful local authority highway schemes.

A great communicator and organiser, you will be used to working on projects end-to-end. And along with a good understanding of Highways Acts – including S278 Agreements for Private Development works – you will enjoy preparing briefs and reports, managing consultants, and excel at programming, prioritising, and monitoring workloads.

While there is scope to working 2 days per week from home, due to the nature of the role the majority of your time will be split between the office and other sites across the borough. And since there will be occasions where you work in close partnership with the public; tact and diplomacy will be vital to ensuring projects move at pace.

In addition to a competitive salary and generous annual leave, you can look forward to joining a Council that puts you first. Supportive, friendly, and open-minded, we take pride in providing training and learning opportunities to strengthen your already-impressive skills. And career opportunities that will help you realise all your ambitions.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. We reserve the right to extend or close this vacancy early without warning subject to the volume of suitable applicants.

Application process

Please do not upload any documents, including CVs/Covering Letters or supporting statements, as these documents will not be reviewed and could result in your application not being shortlisted.

You should describe how you meet the person specification requirements for the position you are applying for in Section G of the application form.

Additional information:

The council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment.

We make sure all our staff are vetted to a high standard by conducting pre-employment checks to assess and assure the trustworthiness, integrity, and ability of prospective employees. This includes validating identity, right to work in the UK, qualifications (where applicable), work history (including the investigation of gaps) and referencing. They may also involve criminal record checks (UK and overseas).

We promote equality, welcome diverse applicants, and ensure inclusivity in our recruitment and selection process.

This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.
