Your new role

In this key role which comes with a remote working locations, you will work in partnership with UK HR leadership and teams across Hitachi Rail to (design), implement and maintain reward frameworks that support Hitachi Rail's strategy.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

Manage the annual Pay Review cycles for all UK employees (approx. 2.5K), in all locations and submit pay changes to payroll for processing in a timely manner. Lead, communicate and administer the annual Bonus scheme for all UK employees in all locations. Organise and communicate the annual Benefit election window for all UK employees. Support HEU to manage all benefits and liaising with 3rd party providers, e.g. BUPA, Pension, life assurance and income protection. Responsible for the annual Gender Pay reporting for all UK and EX-LNER employees, and publish the gender pay statistics on the UK Government Website. Oversee, order and dispatch the Bi-annual Long Service awards for all UK and EX-LNER employees. Prepare and complete annual PSA information for payroll for the Long Service awards. Complete the Directors emoluments certificate for Finance. Support the preparation of the Remuneration paper and proposals related to pay / benefit changes including research in the external and internal market. Complete the Re-Enrolment and Re-declaration of compliance for all EX-LNER employees, and publish the statistics on the Pension regulator website. Manage the reward side of TUPE transfers (Perpetuum, STS and Thales) – identifying differences between transferred in employee benefits and HRE existing offering. Tracking and monitoring benefits for this group over time, supporting harmonisation as appropriate. Lead the reward side of employees seconded outside of the UK (LKC programme) and ensure monthly payroll figures are processed accurately. Administer the quarterly/monthly Out of cycle pay increases, and ensuring payroll and HI NEXT is updated accordingly. Benchmark jobs from the HR team, provide access to current market pay data to support HRBPs Be responsible for creating and maintaining the JD's repository for the HR team. Work alongside the Head of HR Operations to design and deliver effective reward processes that are fit for purpose covering all aspects of compensation and benefits. Support the Head of HR Operations as an advisor to the HR team and leadership, assisting in driving forward the reward agenda including pay philosophy, grading and benefits. Participate in annual pay and benefits surveys. Design effective employee communications around reward and benefits e.g. to promote the total value package available to them. Works with HR colleagues to ensure a joined up approach around reward at HRE. Driving a consistent and pragmatic reward methodology across 2,500 employees based in different UK locations. Take the lead and communicate the annual Pension Brass matching contributions for EX-LNER employees.
•Be the main point of contact to approve all Cycle to work requests for all EX-LNER employees and ensure the deductions are provided to payroll in a timely manner. Support the Implementation of the Mercer job evaluation project across all UK locations. (Establishing an associated salary banding, grade structure and salary decision-making process.) Carry out training with HR teams as required. Once implemented oversee the delivery of a consistent and up to date job grading framework and pay benchmarking approach. Ensure ongoing grade consistency across similar jobs at different locations and address anomalies. Undertake research, design and implementation of a recognition programme. Document New and Review current policies, processes and procedures related to Reward. Link with colleagues in HEU (Hitachi Europe), connecting the HRE reward approach with the wider Hitachi Europe vision and strategy. Establish and communicate reward activities to HRBPs ensuring key activities take place effectively. Develop strong relationships with HR leadership and wider HR teams to identify improvement opportunities in pay, benefits and related processes / systems. Bring innovative ideas from the benefits market and communicate with external providers to deliver change. Act as escalation point of contact for all Reward queries by the Darwin support desk team, ensuring queries are dealt with in an efficient and effective manner. Manage the Reward Inbox and answer all queries in a timely manner. Take part and lead / support on ad-hoc HR projects as required. Provide reports and relevant data as required to the business.

About you

Essential Requirements

Previous experience in a reward specialist / expert role. HR Generalist experience. Experience of designing, implementing and managing reward systems, benefits, policies and processes. Experience of Job Evaluation systems, grading and salary banding. Excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills, ability to work and communicate with senior stakeholders and staff at all levels Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing; able to influence well at all levels Good knowledge of HR policies and practices and continuous improvement Able to work at pace in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment Strong team working skills, able to work collaboratively across the HR function Numerate with the ability to understand and analyse complex information and data Advanced level skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Desirable Requirements

Degree qualified or equivalent e.g. CIPD Level 5 or above, or equivalent Reward Management qualifications or experience. Experience of Mercer Job Evaluation systems. Previous experience of SAP and / or Workday. Experience of working with unions / TUPE an advantage but not essential.
