As an Ambulance Care Assistant, you are responsible for timely, safe transportation of patients and service users to and from appointments at hospitals and other places of care along with hospital discharges and inter-hospital transfers.

At all times, an Ambulance Care Assistant must ensure patient safety and be responsible for the care of patients, themselves, colleagues and others by carefully assessing risks and ensuring safe working practices.

This is a full time position hours per week across 5 days.

The service is 24 hours per day, 7 days a week; you will need to be flexible to cover various shift times.

You will be responsible for transporting patients and service users so the need to deliver excellence with a caring approach is critical to our business.


A successful ACA is:

  • Committed to patient care, delivered with empathy
  • Confident to assist service users with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses and support challenging patients, who may need physical intervention. Previous experience in mental health is preferred.
  • Flexible to cover various shifts including early starts, late finishes, nights, weekends and bank holidays. There may also be occasional shift overruns.
  • A calm, considerate, and careful driver. You will need a full UK driving licence with no more than three penalty points.
  • An effective communicator who is confident with communicating with others in what can often be emotional circumstances
  • Naturally a team player and collaborator
  • Physically fit for patient handling and moving including use of a carry chair, stretcher and wheelchair clamping; Competence in patient assessment, manual handling and moving of patients, oxygen therapy and Emergency First Aid. Full training will be provided
