The Radiation Safety Section provides radiation safety and physics support to users of ionising radiation at a time of rapid development in digital imaging technology, artificial intelligence and expanding clinical applications of radiation. We are a friendly group of physicists and technologists.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience across the spectrum of our work and make contributions, including the testing of radiation and imaging equipment, data handling and analysis, audits and software development work.

You will have a BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in physics or containing a major physics component and an interest in modern digital applications.

Main duties of the job

The Radiation Safety Section is based at the Royal London Hospital. You will be expected to work on all Trust and client sites.

The Radiation Safety Department provides radiation safety and physics support to users of ionising radiation at a time of rapid development in digital imaging technology, artificial intelligence and expanding clinical applications of radiation.

The post-holder will contribute to many aspects of the Department's work which includes testing of radiation and imaging equipment, data handling and analysis, audits and software development work. The post holder will be expected to work on all Trust sites and to travel to sites where external contracts are held.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in physics or containing a major physics component

Desirable criteria

MSc in radiation or medical physics or other relevant subject

Experience

Essential criteria

Project work involving practical experience of measurement, data analysis and report presentation Previous work or training experience in a science, technology or engineering environment Computer programming Experience in Microsoft 365 applications

Desirable criteria

Big data analysis, image analysis and software use Apps creation and maintenance and webpage design Experience of working within a quality management system

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Good knowledge of underlying physics principles at degree level Knowledge of a programming language or computer coding Statistical analysis

Clinical use of radiation Radiation detection methods, monitoring methods, radiation safety Machine learning and AI

Skills

Able to receive, provide and interpret data and draw pertinent deductions Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft applications for analysis and presentation Effective verbal and written communication
