Job description

As a Specialist Trainer for Peer Worker Apprenticeships, you will bring your lived experience of the challenges faced by individuals in the community to the forefront.

Your role involves mentoring and guiding apprentices, equipping them with the skills to support others effectively.

You will offer valuable insights, advice, and constructive feedback to help Peer Workers enhance their practices, particularly during challenging times.

As a Specialist Trainer, you will be instrumental in the development of Peer Workers who assist individuals dealing with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Severe mental distress
  • Mental health crises
  • Perinatal mental health difficulties
  • Longterm conditions
  • Addiction problems
  • Problem gambling
  • Rough sleeping

You will be responsible for training and supporting Peer Worker Apprentices, who play crucial roles in various sectors such as the NHS, health, justice, housing, and private providers of specialist services.

Peer support has a deep-rooted history in social justice, human rights, and community action. This occupation is unique in that it exclusively welcomes individuals with first-hand expertise.

The role includes collaborating with classroom teachers to induct new apprentices to their Peer Worker Apprenticeship program.

Conducting regular workplace meetings with apprentices and their employers to coach and mentor them in their roles and assisting apprentices in building portfolios to facilitate progress towards their end point assessment and successful completion of their apprenticeships.

Qualifications or experience:

  • Lived experience relevant to the challenges faced by the community.
  • Experience in peer support roles is preferred.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn the apprenticeship delivery requirements.

We are looking for individuals who may come from similar peer support roles and are seeking to expand their impact.

Experienced trainers in this field looking for a change are also encouraged to apply. Training for apprenticeship delivery requirements will be provided.

Our success is measured by the achievement of our clients' learning outcomes on the program and their overall satisfaction with our services.

We also assess the value our services bring to employers and the contributions made by our apprentices to their businesses.
