About the role


Ashgate Hospice is looking to develop a Registered General Nurse into the role of Clinical Skills Facilitator Assistant to support and assist the IPU nursing staff, using a range of training and assessment methods, whilst focusing on clinical excellence and quality.

As this is a development role, you must be willing to undertake a qualification at degree level.


Working with the Clinical Practice Facilitator, this clinically focussed role is to deliver a high quality of training and assessment with clear learning objectives.

This involves working clinically with the learners, classroom teaching in the IPU education room and supporting staff to complete their competency-based development programmes using innovative and evidence-based nursing practice.


Hours:
Full-time 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

The main responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and assessing IPU nursing staff, providing effective and engaging training using a range of delivery methods including ward based and structured training.
  • Demonstrate competencies to the IPU nursing staff, including role modelling competent practice.
  • Support the senior IPU nursing team to identify learning needs, compare competencies to actual practice and support the senior IPU team in managing the learning requirements and professional development needs of individual staff.
  • Identify and provide opportunities for skill enhancement and mastery including appropriate evidencebased practice to guide clinical decisions.
  • Maintain all training and assessment records and support the Clinical Practice facilitator to produce written and oral summaries/reports of progress as required.

About you:

As a Registered General Nurse, you must be committed to your own personal development and the development of others.

You should demonstrate personal integrity at all times and have the ability to motivate others.


You will need to demonstrate a calm and approachable manner, a caring and sensitive approach with a commitment to the hospice values, vision and strategy.

Skills and experience required.

  • Evidence of quality improvement success in a clinical setting
  • A commitment to improving patient services.
  • Clinical knowledge and experience within a palliative care environment, underpinned by theory CPD.
  • Experience of mentoring staff in the clinical environment.
  • Advanced clinical skills including venous access, catheterisation, nasogastric tube management and IV drug administration
  • Confident in communicating, documenting and updating records
  • Motivation and commitment to personal and professional development
  • A commitment to Ashgate's values
