Additional Information BackgroundThe Africa-UK Physics Partnership Programme aims to foster collaboration between physicists in the UK and Africa. It seeks to nurture a pool of talented early career researchers who will explore the role of physics in addressing climate change, sustainable energy, and the development of fundamental physics in eligible regions.
The program endeavors to establish fair partnerships between researchers in Africa and the UK. It will tackle existing challenges linked to conducting physics research in sub-Saharan Africa, fostering the exchange of skills, knowledge, and expertise crucial for capacity building and research advancements.
Supported collaborative projects will focus on research areas such as:
- Climate
- Energy
- Fundamental physics for the African economy
This funding opportunity aligns with the UK's commitment to official development assistance (ODA), aiming to enhance the economic development and well-being of developing nations.
Workshop for Potential ApplicantsThe Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), in partnership with the UK Institute of Physics, will host an in-person workshop in Nairobi, Kenya from 10 to 12 July 2024. This event will offer insights into the program's rationale, introduce upcoming collaborative research projects, and facilitate networking opportunities for UK and African physics researchers. STFC will cover travel and accommodation expenses for attendees.
To register for the workshop, kindly complete the form by 31 May 2024 at 4:00 pm UK time to express your interest. Please be aware that STFC may share data with partner organizations, and reserves the right to finalize the list of workshop participants from respective countries.
