Responsibilities and Duties

As an Associate Director in the Quantum division of construction disputes, you will collaborate with the London quantum team, including noted experts, to determine the best approach to each litigation/arbitration case and help clients achieve the desired legal outcomes. Reporting to a Senior Associate Director, you will support their workload by handling senior quantum duties for multiple arbitration, expert witness, and adjudication assignments as well as live project work related to contract administration or distressed project support.

Specific Quantum Associate Director Job Duties:

  • Analyze construction accounts, costs, values, and payments to detect errors or opportunities
  • Conduct technical analyses using appropriate methods and prepare reports for expert reports used in arbitrations and adjudications
  • Write sections of quantum expert reports under supervision for checking by the Senior AD and quantum expert
Desired Skills and Experience

Suitable candidates for the Associate Director Quantum role are expected to have recent experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a reputable UK main contractor or PQS/Cost Consultancy. Key requirements include:

  • 3 or more years' experience in Quantity Surveying or cost controls for a reputable contractor, covering pre and post-contract works and contractual matters
  • Experience managing commercial administration of construction contracts, assessing claims for legitimacy, and resolving disputes
  • Familiarity with contract forms such as NEC3 ECC & PSC contracts, framework agreements, and bespoke contracts
  • Proficiency in writing reports, letters, or briefing documents for construction claims, and strong skills in relevant software tools like MS Office Suite, MS Project, Primavera P3/P6
  • Capable of explaining technical content to non-technical audiences, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and ability to work well in a team
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or similar
  • Working towards a Master's degree in a relevant construction field, especially construction law LLM
  • Working towards MRICS or MInstCES qualifications in the future
