Band 3 Activity Worker
There is ample evidence in literature and in local audits that obesity is a serious issue in a significant number of service users in Secure Mental Health Services.
Obesity adversely affects both, mental health and physical health outcomes. It also is a risk factor for a variety of cardio metabolic problems, chronic musculo- skeletal problems, and cancers. It is well established that the average life span for service users with enduring mental disorders is around 20 years less than the general population and therefore preventing weight gain in this population is vital to extend life expectancy and improve quality of life.
Post holders will contribute to the provision of daily activities particularly out of usual working hours in the afternoons and at weekends, for people admitted to Tamarind Centre.
Activities will be a mixture of ward based, within the hospital facilities and in community settings targeting hard to reach individuals, those who are acutely mentally unwell and those with physical ill health and disabilities.
To provide a range of social/recreational/leisure activities for individual and groups of service users who experience mental health difficultiesTo contribute to data collection
To work predominately in the afternoons and at weekends (37.5 hours per week) on a shift basis across 7 days, including rostered weekends and bank holidays.
