Job Purpose:

  • The YPVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of young people informs every stage of the process, specialising in working with young female and males aged This will involve working alongside key agencies, youth services and communities to improve their awareness of domestic abuse as it impacts on young people.
  • As a YPVA, you will hold a caseload of young people, residing in the community who are experiencing or at risk of serious harm through intimate partner violence or risk of Child Sexual Exploitation or socalled honourbased violence. You will provide 1:1 support, undertake DASH risk assessments, develop individual safety & support plans and assist them with signposting to other relevant support services.
  • Your work will include prevention, by delivering healthy relationship workshops in schools, promoting the support that can be offered in the community and help developing programmes specifically for young people.
  • You will have effective communication skills and experience of partnership working as the role will involve maintaining effective multiagency relationships, attending meetings such as Team around the Family, Child in Need, Child Protection Conferences and MARAC. You will be required to adhere to statutory protocols and procedures.
  • You will be a positive ambassador for SDASS ensuring services are delivered to the highest of standards and SDASS policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

Main duties:


To work effectively with young people, other service providers, agencies and specialist services in order to achieve positive outcomes for young people.


  • To hold a caseload and provide high quality telephone and face to face crisis intervention, information and support to young people referred to the service, in respect to risk management and safety planning.
  • To ensure that clear, accurate, complete and concise case records are maintained, and individual safety & support plans and risk assessments are undertaken and regularly reviewed.
  • To remain up to date on relevant national, local authority and SDASS policies and procedures in order to protect young people, bringing any concerns or issues immediately to the attention of managers.
  • Prepare written reports for meetings such as Child Protection Conferences and MARAC. You will record and monitor service outcomes and keep managers informed of any issues and successes.
  • To develop relationships with the local colleges and explore setting up drop in's for young people to access support.
  • To identify own training and development needs and participate in all training courses relevant to SDASS' commitment to providing high quality services.
  • To work at all times with due regard to the policies and procedures of SDASS, participating in their development and amendment where required.
  • You will be expected to attend regular supervision with your line manager.
  • You will be expected to take responsibility for ensuring that all relevant health and safety standards are adhered.
  • You will need to actively promote the YPVA service, establishing effective referral pathways with partner agencies, particularly with and young people focused organisations.
  • In order to deliver SDASS services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and you may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.

_It is essential to the development of Swindon Women's Aid service delivery that the post holder is able to respond flexibly to changes in the requirements of this post. PERSON SPECIFICATION:

EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • 2 years previous experience ofsupporting children and young people including managing a caseload
  • Experience of providing emotional and practical support, of undertaking risk and needs assessment, safety and support planning
  • Experience of partnership working and of maintaining excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • YPVA qualification (or willingness to work towards this)
  • Peadiatric First Aid qualification
  • Child Protection/Safeguarding qualification

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on children and young people. This will include an understanding of physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse, with knowledge of honour
- based abuse, forced marriage and female genital mutilation.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures and legislation
  • Good understanding of the criminal justice system and civil options available to domestic violence and abuse victims.
