Research Support Officer

To work within a programme aimed at the characterization of the cytoplasmic dynein complex.
Specifically, to use baculovirus and mammalian expression systems to assist in the production of proteins that are cargos, accessory factors and regulators of dynein.
Also, to maintain cell cultures and perform CRISPR tagging.Main duties/ Key responsibilities:
To develop strategies for the production of challenging multi protein complexes for structural and biochemical analysis.
Responsibilities will include all steps of protein production i.e., growth and maintenance of insect and mammalian cell lines, cloning, protein expression and protein purification.
Other roles include molecular biology and CRISPR tagging of cells as well as maintaining cell cultures.
Within the objectives of the project the post holder will carry out the project with close supervision by a postdoctoral researcher or PhD student.
To plan their own work and objectives on a weekly basis and will manage their experimental work within the project along with their supervisor.
To work with supervision to discuss progress and plan on a daily basis with the supervisor and members of the group.
To ensure the research is carried in accordance with good practice and in compliance with local polices and legal requirements.
To contribute to the smooth running of the research group, including the effective use of resources and taking responsibility for use of communal facilities.
Working relationships:
The postholder will report to Dr Andrew Carter and will interact and collaborate with other postdoctoral scientists, research support staff and students in the Group and across the LMB, and with external Groups as necessary.
Additional information:
The postholder should be studying for, or have just completed, an undergraduate or master's degree in the biological or physical sciences or a related discipline.
Responsibility will be for the postholder's own work only.

Education / qualifications / training required:
- Essential_: BSc or higher level qualification in a relevant field of the life sciences
Previous work experience required:
- Essential: _Previous experience of laboratory research would be an advantage, but training will be given
- Desirable: _Experience in mammalian cell culture, insect cell culture or protein purification

- Essential: _Ability to plan experiments and execute carefully.
