This is a B5 position for an Exercise Practitioner, employed as part of the Therapy services dept at UHS, and working within the Cystic Fibrosis team. The Wessex Adult Cystic Fibrosis service at Southampton cares for approximately 340 adults with CF. The post will include care of cystic fibrosis patients in an inpatient ward setting, as well as part of MDT clinics and in the community environment. The post holder will be responsible for assisting in delivery of exercise and rehabilitation and exercise testing, including CPET.

The post holder will work flexibly across the week, Monday - Friday, with a requirement to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

About the Therapy services departmentThis post is part of the wider Therapy services department. You will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 290 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff.

Job description Job responsibilities The post holder will liaise with the patient, family, and healthcare professionals to establish the patients goals, providing monitoring, motivation, and evaluation for their exercise programme. They will ensure the completion of outcome measures and other performance measures as required to ensure a high standard of patient care. The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary CF team, communicate clearly, and ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities of the role: Working with cystic fibrosis and other ward based respiratory patients in an inpatient, outpatient clinic and community setting. Completing assessment of clinical needs, exercise, including CPET and field exercise tests, and rehabilitation needs Prescribing and provision of exercise and rehabilitation programmes Motivating and encouraging patients to participate in their treatment programme within the gym, ward, and outdoor environments. Reviewing and progressing exercise programmes as appropriate. Establishing the patients goals, providing monitoring, motivation, and evaluation for their rehabilitation programme. Using and collating appropriate outcome measures with guidance from senior staff Communicating appropriately and effectively at all levels Understanding acute assessment of the medically unwell patient and be able to recognise signs of deterioration and communicate information clearly to senior staff and the medical team. Updating patient records with an accurate record of patient activities and statistical data as required. Complying with infection control policies (both local and CF Trusts guidelines).

Essential criteria: to apply for this post you must have:- Degree (or equivalent) in Exercise / Sports Science, which includes the study of anatomy and physiology.- Ability to work flexibly across the week, Monday Friday, including weekends and Bank holidays on a roster basis.

Desirable criteria- Hold a driving licence, to undertake community visits.
