Head of Internal Communications - £70,011 p.a.

+ benefits We are currently looking for a Head of Internal Communications to join our Communications and Engagement Function within the Enablement Group.

This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis.

The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU, with occasional travel to our South Mimms site.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

We are currently operate a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business.

Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office.

Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The MHRA Communications and Engagement Function is a multi-award-winning team that has a consistent track record of achievement and providing value for money.

Our focus is to support the MHRA to deliver its business outcomes by putting patients and the public at the centre of all our work.


We are organised in the following teams:
News & Media, Communications, Patient and Public Stakeholder Engagement and Customer Experience. This role is in our Communications team.

The Internal Communications team develops and delivers relevant and engaging content from across the organisation and shares this with our staff.

The team manages all our internal communication channels including the intranet and a programme of staff events.

What's the role? This is a senior leadership role requiring high visibility and influence across the Agency to provide strategic advice and ensure communications supports delivery of the Agency's business outcomes This is a multi-disciplined communications role responsible for managing internal relationships at a senior level to develop and deliver internal and transformation communications and engagement strategies for staff and external partners.

Outcomes will be measured by strong staff engagement and agreed objectives in internal communications strategies, including trust in leadership of change indicators across the Agency, as measured in the people and other surveys.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the internal communications team, ensuring high quality service provision through providing clear strategic direction and priorities, with the ability to develop and deliver communication strategies to our diverse workforce.
  • Oversee the efficient management and development of the agency's internal communication channels including staff events.
  • Provide proactive strategic internal and transformation communications advice to senior leaders, including the executive committee and chief executive
  • Develop, embed cross-agency and evaluate an internal communications strategy to manage effective two-way communication and engagement that supports the business priorities and culture change.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral, with the ability to accurately and confidently communicate, influence and challenge staff and external contacts at all levels.

  • A confident self starter, who can operate independently and manage conflicting priorities while delivering to deadline but can also operate flexibly as part of a team and encourages feedback and the views of others.
Experience Extensive experience of managing internal communications and stakeholder engagement for high-profile organisational transformation programmes.

Includes:
drafting action plans, securing required resource and setting performance standards.

Proven senior leadership and management skills, able to demonstrate experience of leading multi-functional units in a complex organisation, including motivating and developing staff, and managing their performance.
