London, Greater London, United Kingdom DNV Full time

Do you want to be involved and make a difference in the realisation of the energy transition? Do you want to support our customers develop and deliver successful strategies as part of the journey to a green, smart and flexible energy system?

Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it's helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

Our Energy Strategy Advisory (ESA) team's deep expertise in renewable energy technologies, gas and electricity networks, energy markets, and business models, means we are uniquely positioned to provide independent advice on developments in low carbon markets, policy frameworks, economics and technology to stakeholders in the energy transition.

Our clients span the full energy value chain and include manufacturers, utilities, investors, regulators and governments, and services involve techno-economic assessment, research and innovation, strategy and management consulting, as well as policy and regulatory advice. Our overall objective is to help the energy sector to develop viable and economic solutions to support the transition to a green, smart and flexible energy system as part of the route to Net Zero.

Our Opportunity:

GB's gas and electricity networks face a tremendous challenge to deliver the network investments required to enable decarbonisation of the energy system and connect large quantities of renewable energy production capacity at record pace. The energy transition is a defining feature of our century. While its direction towards decarbonisation and electrification is clear, its pace of transition is uncertain. As a key player in the energy industry, DNV forecasts the transition and how it will impact the energy industry and the society at large. Our energy networks are pivotal to delivering the energy transition at the scale and pace required to realise Net Zero 2050, and to fulfil their role, they will need to overcome unprecedented techno-economic challenges under high policy and regulatory uncertainty.

Your role will focus on techno-economic, strategic and regulatory advice to GB Energy Networks, such as National Grid ESO, National Gas, TOs, DNOs and GDNs, but also networks in other jurisdictions. You will help our customers understand and overcome strategic and regulatory challenges, assess the technical and commercial viability of innovative technologies/solutions and business models, and manage the risks around investment propositions. Specific topics would include, among others, digitalisation, "whole systems" network/system operation, DNO-to-DSO, flexibility mechanisms, renewables integration, and enabling hydrogen.

Specifically, your role will involve handling, manipulating, updating and improving DNV's UK Energy Transition Outlook (ETO) model. This is a large-scale system dynamics model, and therefore the candidate must be comfortable working with system dynamics models, or at least similar simulation modelling methodologies, and comfortable handling large datasets.

Overall, you will be responsible for:

Research and Modelling Updating and improving our UK ETO system dynamics simulation model to develop other associated models/publications and presenting results in business settings for DNV and stakeholders Creating new energy models or sub-models, continuously improving our work Process and visualize large datasets for input and output data Undertake relevant research of energy transition providing knowledge and input to our energy models, including the drivers of energy demand, consumer behaviour, energy markets, energy technologies, energy security considerations, emissions and climate implications of energy use Work with the DNV organisation and outside energy experts on technologies, costs, policies, drivers and barriers for energy demand and supply, and transport Consultancy and Business Development: Advise our clients in our projects about whole energy system network planning, network design, system operation, digitalisation, strategy and economic regulation. Take a leading role as an expert on the changing role of energy networks in delivering the energy transition, including relevant industry developments, regulation and guidelines Continually develop your professional network to connect with existing and new customers, representing DNV at events to showcase our services and capabilities and identify market opportunities and opportunities to develop new services. Carry out quantitative and qualitative analyses for your projects and write high quality reports and presentations to a publishable standard for our customers. Organise and deliver client workshops: support our customers to define their energy transition strategy and preparing high quality proposals addressing the needs of our customers
