Position Overview: Imperial College London is on the lookout for a talented Research Associate to engage in pioneering research within the field of energy systems modelling. Key Responsibilities: As a Research Associate, you will be at the cutting edge of energy systems modelling, developing and implementing models that are vital for informing policy and decision-making processes worldwide. You will work with established modelling frameworks such as TIMES, OSeMOSYS, and MUSE, applying these tools in impactful scenarios that support countries in their climate strategies.

Your role will involve collaboration with a distinguished team, providing opportunities for international engagement, particularly across Europe. You will contribute to the development of modelling frameworks and data that will enhance your career prospects in this dynamic field.

Collaboration and Impact: You will closely collaborate with renowned project teams, government representatives from partner countries, and international organizations. Your expertise in quantitative analysis, software development, and project management will be essential in delivering insights and tools for energy system design that will leave a lasting legacy.

Specific Duties:

  • Develop and apply energy systems modelling tools, engaging with partner countries to co-create solutions that address their specific needs while advancing research.
  • Support the research team in various capacities, including mentoring MSc and MEng students, facilitating communications, and participating in other initiatives.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences to build a network of professional connections.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field related to energy systems modelling, or nearing completion with strong skills for the role.
  • Experience in structured software development using tools such as Git/GitHub, along with coding proficiency in languages like Python, SQL, and GIS software.
  • Demonstrated experience in energy systems modelling, particularly in building and applying models that address future technology deployment for climate change mitigation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with collaborators and stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of publishing impactful research articles in esteemed journals.
  • A collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively within a research team.
