We have the pleasure to advertise a rare exciting opportunity to train as a Respiratory Physiologist.

This will be a three year training post where you will learn many new skills alongside our team of Respiratory Physiologists.

You will also be enrolled onto a fully funded BSc in Physiological Science (Respiratory/Sleep)

  • GCSEs that must include grade c or grade 4 in English Language, Science and Mathematics
  • Equivalent qualifications or professional demonstrable experience may also be accepted.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification

The vacancy is based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. The department offers a range of Respiratory investigations. We also offer sleep investigations and therapies. The post holder will learn a range of skills to become competent in a full range of investigations.

  • The post holder will train in routine and more specialised lung function tests in the lung function laboratory. This should include performing oximetry, spirometry, reversibility testing, flowvolume loop, transfer factor, body plethysmography, mouth pressures, sniff pressures, six minute walking test, Mannitol challenge, hypoxic challenge.
  • The post holder will also learn to set up and download routine and more specialised sleep studies, including screening oximetry, TOSCATM,NOXand ApneaLink
  • The post holder will learn to set up patients on CPAP therapy in accordance with local and national standards.
  • The post holder will perform accurate and reproducible measurements in accordance with the standards and protocols of lung function, which are in line with national standards
