The Role

Working under the direct supervision of a member of the nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific service guidelines, patient specific directions and protocols, the Phlebotomist will support the nursing team in the delivery of nursing services.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Phlebotomist will deliver care within their scope of the service to the entitled patient population.

The Phlebotomist will be required to provide excellent service delivery to patients across clinic environments and patients' own homes.

The core hours for this role are currently Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm. This might change according to business needs with possibility of weekend shifts.

About Nottingham City GP Alliance
Nottingham City General Practice Alliance (NCGPA) was formed in 2016. We are Nottingham city's first GP Federation, often referred to as NCGPA or the Alliance. Our members consist of 45 NHS GP practices in Nottingham city, who cover a population of over 355,000 patients.

NCGPA is a Company Limited by shares, with its member practices being equal shareholders.

The company is managed by a board of 8 elected representatives from member GP practices and three co-opted positions representing nursing, lay and non-principal GPs.

The day to day running of the company is through a Senior Management team comprising the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer along with the Company's Chief Operating Officer and a dedicated office team.

Responsibilities

  • To obtain venous blood samples from patients, as required by clinicians for laboratory investigations in clinic environments and patients' own homes. To work within a team, meeting the needs of the service
- defined client group.

  • To check, rotate and order supplies within the service.
  • To obtain venous blood samples from patients in a safe and professional manner and to follow agreed protocols and techniques of blood collection.
  • To thoroughly check each patient's details to identify them correctly.
  • Working alone in a clinical environment and patients' homes.
  • To communicate with the patients and carers, whilst explaining the task being performed.
  • Undertake appropriate training to ensure practice is maintained and updated. Practice and promote approved and up to date methods and techniques relating to blood collection.
  • Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity to ensure that the specimen containers are consistent with that of the request forms and ensuring specimens are stored appropriately for collection.
  • To address and work with all patients in a professional and supportive manner in compliance with NCGPA policy on patient care and to support the individual's privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Ensure that blood samples taken after transport collection reach the appropriate laboratory in time.
  • To maintain clinical activity records pertaining to the service, according to required standards.
  • Ensure that all NCGPA policies relating to confidential information and Health and Safety are adhered to.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required within the grade of the post.
  • To use a computerised clinical system to enter blood collection and data, obtain new rotas schedules and planned future visits.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a caregiving environment (essential)
  • Experience of direct involvement with the public (essential)
  • Previous Phlebotomy experience (desirable)

Qualifications

  • Full driving licence and the ability to travel between locations (essential)

  • First Aid Certificate (desirable)
