Raw Participation Lead

The Participation Lead role leads on child and youth participation work, making sure we have the experience of children and young people at the heart of everything we do across the ground-breaking Thames Valley Link Teams.

The role supports, inspires and works collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to design ways for the voice of children, young people and parents/carers to be heard and ensure this is acted upon in the development of strategy, policy and service provision.


A key responsibility of the role is to ensure that children and young people are involved in the planning, delivery and review of the service including organisational decision making.

This will include designing and delivering a comprehensive, creative and inclusive participation strategy which ensures children and young people are safely supported to participate and lead on LINK work as well as support their own personal development goals.


As part of the participation strategy, the Participation Lead will support colleagues from across the organisation to develop, influence and support participation activities including training for staff who are undertaking participation work with children and young people.

This will enable and empower young people to inform, guide and lead on service development work in a safe and meaningful way.

The role will take responsibility for promoting participation and recruiting children and young people to take part in activities.

The children and young people will come from diverse communities and ensuring that those who are harder to reach (including vulnerable and disadvantaged groups) are able to participate in the work.

The Participation Lead will be a strong, determined and visible advocate for children and young people's voice.

Working closely with key external partners including local authorities, schools, Healthwatch, the voluntary and community sector and other children and young people's organisations to the Participation Lead will champion young people's involvement in decision making and the development of services.


A key will be to actively promote a culture of participation throughout the service and to facilitate a shared understanding / ethos that participation is everyone's responsibility and in doing so will embed effective participation practices across and at all levels of the service.


  • Manage and priorities own workload. Working autonomously and on own initiative, assessing situation which may involve information from a variety of differing levels of complexity
  • Development of a comprehensive and inclusive participation strategy across Thames Valley Link Programme in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including children and young people, parents and carers
  • Lead on the delivery of participation and co-production programmes and activities to ensure that a wide range of children and young people influence and participate in the planning delivery and review of the service, including organizational processes, projects and decision making.
  • Ensure that children and young people from a wide range of communities have opportunities to participate and have their voice heard (including vulnerable and disadvantaged groups)
  • Embed a culture of participation at all levels across the programme so that participation is everybody's business, to include supporting colleagues and teams with the development of participation and influence roles and activities.
  • Undertake outreach activities within communities and lead on the recruitment of children and young people (through a range of promotion and communication methods) and supporting their transition between participation roles and into opportunities outside of the organisation
  • Develop and delivery a package of support to children and young people that enables them to communicate their views, participate safely and meaningfully, and in a way that supports their personal development
  • Provide information, advice, guidance and training for staff across all teams on participatory methodologies and best practice
  • Identify and manage relationships with key stakeholders including national and regional participation bodies, local authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups, voluntary and community sector organisations and other organizations and groups that work with children and young people
  • Be a visible advocate for child and youth voice within the organisation and externally with key partners. To include coordinating and arranging meetings with locality teams involving the young people in delivering updates on participation activities in localities.
  • Maintain good contact with children, young people, parents and carers to understand their needs and views and champion this in an accessible and effective way with/in relevant stakeholders / forums
