We are looking for a dynamic individual, with secretarial skills, to join our team. We provide a supportive environment and are passionate about excellent care and making a difference to our patients.

We are based at North Middlesex University Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive medical secretarial support (including medical audio typing) to the clinical staff (Consultants) who work within the Urology Service.

To provide comprehensive administrative support to the Urology Service. This is a responsible post requiring a high degree of accuracy relating to inputting of patient details, self-organisation and own initiative. Excellent communication/organisation skills are required as well as ability to work under own initiative.

To understand, operate and maintain numerous clinical booking systems and contribute to a centralised service allowing access for patients through a variety of means such as telephone, email etc.

The post also involves adhoc communications with GP's, Consultants, Appointments Officers, other Clinical Departments and other medical/support services, whilst still complying with NMUH privacy policies. Therefore, the post holder must be organised, able to work to strict targets and have excellent communications at all levels and customer care skills.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria

Good literacy and numeracy. Equivalent to GCSE level Fluent in written and spoken English Good computer skills and knowledge of software systems, comparable to NVQ 3 or RSA 3

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria

Experience of data management including all Microsoft packages and Electronic Patient Systems. Ability to work alone and make decisions about urgent issues Excellent communication and able to demonstrate appropriate use of negotiating and persuasive skills in dealing with colleagues and patients. Ability to analyse a wide variety of sometimes complex situations / information and make conclusions and recommendations depending on the nature and complexity of the subject. To be able to work flexibly Ability to plan, prioritise and organise. Maintaining confidentiality and observe information governance and data protection rules Proficiency in audio typing Excellent team player

Desirable criteria

Any relevant courses and or qualifications in administrative or office work.

Essential criteria

Previous experience of dealing with the public in a busy environment and conflicting priorities. Audio typist to a high level of proficiency. Handling confidential and sensitive information in accordance with the Data protection Act. Experience of working with IT systems in an office environment.

Desirable criteria

Experience of dealing with patients in a clinical service 18 months – 2 years.
