The post of community Team leader is an exciting opportunity to take on new role that would give the applicant an opportunity to lead a community team of midwives and support workers in delivering excellent and holistic midwifery care in a diverse area of London.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to take on a leadership role within the team overseeing all clinical activity and ensuring support for the team members.

This will include responsibility for all governance and reporting requirements, rota and absence management and staff induction and orientation.

You will also work with the team in carrying out all required clinical duties.

This role will require you to take responsibility for identifying education needs for team members including student midwives and ensuring compliance with all mandatory training. It will give you the opportunity to support Quality Improvement projects and implement new local and national initiatives.

We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

Duties and responsibilities:

The post holder will

Work in accordance with the NMC’s and code of conduct for midwives. Maintain and develop professional knowledge and competence in accordance with the NMC Standard Proficiencies for Midwives. Implement recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care. Act as a role model for midwifery practice to all staff within the directorate. Formulate and ensure all staff are aware and implementing the evidence-based protocols agreed for the Women and Children’s directorate. Take responsibility for the provision of a continuity of care model that meets the demand of the women who book with North Middlesex, regardless of the place of birth. Act as a “Specialist advisor” on issues relating to midwifery care to the members of the team Identify areas of practice, which require further investigation and initiate and participate in both midwifery and medical research and audit programmes. Participate in appraisals of AFC Band 6 midwives, on at least an annual basis in line with Trust policies. Supervise the maintenance of stores and equipment and with due economy requisition supplies, repairs and replacements of equipment. Act on, investigate and report complaints, incidents and accidents to your Midwifery Manager, or the manager on call as appropriate. Ensure that working conditions are safe in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and that staff are working within IPC guidelines. Act up for Midwifery Matron for Community as required. The post holder is required to follow Trust policies and procedures and disseminate and implement any updates. Develop personal management skills, identifies their own personal development needs and plans appropriately with the manager to meet those needs

  Clinical Responsibilities

To possess the midwifery skills to undertake midwifery care for a caseload of women during all stages of their pregnancy, to be able to facilitate and provide continuity of carer across all pathways of care to women and families. Take part in the maternity service bleep holder rota for community to ensure safe staffing on a day-by-day basis across community including support with clinical decision making

Leadership and Managerial

Lead, co-ordinate and manage clinical activities in relation to provision of antenatal and postnatal care in order to maximise continuity of care/carer Participate in appraisals of AFC Band 6 midwives, on at least an annual basis in line with Trust policies. Arrange and develop orientation programmes, which familiarise new members of staff and students with the organisational and clinical demands of the team. Provide a support system for students and midwives within the team. Ensure all KPIs are met, ensuring that sickness and absences are dealt with according to Trust processes and that all team members are compliant with all MaST and Midwifery Training requirements. Participate in the selection process for new staff and student midwives. Plan and initiate induction and orientation programmes, which integrate newly qualified and new members of staff.

Educational

To develop and co-ordinate parenthood Education taking account of the needs of the local population and keep clients informed of new services offered within the Directorate. Participate in the teaching and dissemination of professional and clinical knowledge to all learners and members of staff. Actively support junior staff and students and be a resource for research-based information on midwifery practice. Ensure all training requirements for the team are addressed based on the requirements of the role, the individual, the team and the department. Utilise Annual Reviews to support individual development and identify training needs.
