Job summary

The Patient Access Team Leader role will be to effectively manage and take active role in the continual development of the waiting list administrative service ensuring that operating capacity is fully utilised across both hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

To ensure elective admissions procedures and policies are adhered to and that activity and performance targets for the department in relation to inpatient and day care waiting times are met, in line with Trust objectives, using the Trust's Patient Access Policy and National Referral to Treatment standards.

About us

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To effectively manage and take active role in the continual development of the waiting list administrative service ensuring that operating capacity is fully utilised across both hospital sites.

To ensure that the administration and coordination of the elective waiting lists in the trust is carried out to the highest standards in a consistent and timely manner. To ensure that the processes in place fully support modernisation initiatives, liaising closely with healthcare professionals, managers, administrative and secretarial staff as well as patients and their relatives. To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the department and staff To be responsible for the training and development of staff in the department within the framework of their Personal Development Plans To deputise for Patient Access Manager and represent Patient Access in internal and external meetings.

Essential

GCSE with Maths and English Relevant NHS experience Experience in supervisory or Team Leader role Detailed understanding of 18-week principles including RTT measurement, booking theatre lists Experience in using Patient Administration Systems, and other systems relevant to inpatient booking. Good working knowledge of Trust case notes. Ability to analyse and interpret complex case notes and data within core systems such as Cerner to understand the patient's journey as applicable to RTT pathway management principles. Experience of data handling, including sourcing data, data collection and inputting on to PAS. Quickly and expertly identify and investigate inconsistencies in data.

Desirable

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience Pro-active and able to identify and act upon opportunities for improvement. Knowledge of clinical pathways Previous experience within a Clinical Division, Information Management or in-house systems and applications ECDL and other relevant Information System training Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
