We have a very exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Complex Limb Reconstruction Clinical Nurse Specialist at the UHNM.

The post holder will work within a clinic and ward environment with the responsibility to follow up and review pre and post-operatively patients with external fixation and those who have undergone intermedullary nail procedures.


The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will manage the complete clinical care for their patients within the limb reconstruction service utilising an expert knowledge base and clinical competence to support multi-professional teams within the UHNM.

There will be support to achieve 'expansion to practice' to enable you to perform mechanical testing to check for patients fracture healing and also perform safe removal of external fixators with instruction from the Consultant.


Working closely with the Limb reconstruction Consultant and as part of the clinical team, the CNS will provide high quality care for limb reconstruction patients within UHNM, meeting identified physical and psycho-social needs.

The role of the Limb Reconstruction CNS is pivotal to the coordination and delivery of effective multidisciplinary treatment.


The successful applicant will have good communication and organisational skills and should have at least 3 years experience of working in an acute hospital within trauma and orthopaedics.

This role is part of a small group of limb reconstruction clinical nurse specialists.


Knowledge of wound care is essential and casting experience would be desirable in order to carry out all aspects of care this group of patients require.

We are looking for a committed team player who has high standards and is passionate about improving the patient experience.


There is a requirement to work within an outpatient clinic environment with the wider MDT within the fracture clinic at UHNM in a nurse-led clinic and also follow up patients within the critical care or ward setting.

Supporting, counselling and educating patients and their carers and providing education to the wider clinical teams.


Running a telephone triage service for all limb reconstruction patients and other healthcare providers to give advice and support regarding problems with patients' treatment i.e.

pin site infection, mobility and general advice.
