The key project that the role will focus on is delivering our Community Champions Programme, which seeks to empower our existing volunteers to assist us in reaching diverse communities. The role will also involve supporting other community engagement projects and may evolve as we develop our work to scale up the workstreams that are most effective.

We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

What you'll be doing

You will be central to our outreach to under-represented groups and communities, spending time and effort researching the areas, getting to know local contacts and community organisations, listening to, and understanding their priorities. You will build awareness and understanding of the programme, inspire people to be advocates who will endorse and help us promote what we are doing. You will use the insights you've gained to identify common areas of interest, build trust and opportunities for joint communications activity or potential recruitment partners and to plan our senior team's engagement activity.

Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Researching and understanding the communities where we are rolling out recruitment and getting to know the local stakeholders.
  • Providing training, planning and delivery support to volunteers of the programme who wish to support our recruitment efforts. This includes being the point of contact for volunteers seeking support and advice in engaging with their communities.
  • Building lasting relationships and trust with volunteers who we can work collaboratively with.
  • Be involved in planning engagement activities for our community engagement team.
  • Coordinate a range of activity, from events and round tables to supporting one to ones and project visits for our community engagement team.
  • Coordinate well-produced, accessible, engaging, and audience-focused content, tailoring as required.
  • Share insights and learnings across the organisation from your engagement with communities to help improve programme design.
  • Working with local stakeholders to learn from our experiences in each region and use this to continuously refine and improve our approach.

Our ideal candidate will have strong experience of working in a fast-paced community engagement or community events environment. To succeed, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

  • Have experience in a community engagement and working with volunteers from different ethnic groups and faiths to build meaningful relationships.
  • Have a dynamic, flexible approach, with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be someone who works well in a busy, changing environment with tight deadlines and takes pride in the little touches that make for strong relationships and excellent events.
  • Have experience in volunteer management and event management.
  • Be able to build relationships and work confidently with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels and from all backgrounds.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex messaging clearly and in a way that is meaningful for different groups of people.
  • A good understanding of or experience in the health sector would be beneficial for this role.
  • A driving licence would be desirable although not essential.
  • Any experience of working in engagement with a focus on diversity and inclusion would be helpful in this role.
  • Up to £35,000 per annum basic salary.
  • Generous company pension package with employer contributions of up to 12%.
  • 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
  • Continuous career development with regular appraisals and learning and development opportunities.
