Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller - Bruton

Fresh Produce Operative 27,000 per annum plus fantastic benefitsBased onsite at The Newt in Somerset - BA740 hours per week Tuesday - Saturdaywww.thenewtinsomerset.com

Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller

Working as part of the Product Team, the Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller is a hands-on role responsible for quality checking deliveries of fruit and vegetables, splitting down bulk wholesale deliveries and packing orders. In addition to this, there will be elements of stock control via stock rotation and using platforms such as Sage for invoicing, inter-siting and receipting plus some ordering duties. Whilst this will all be taught, IT skills will therefore be required.

Fruit and veg is a vitally important part of The Newt, so every piece that comes in or is sent out must be checked for quality. We are looking for someone who can work often alone and at pace, with a keen eye for detail.

This will be a physical and varied role and will include keeping the fridge clean and tidy and minimizing wastage. Along with the Fresh Produce Buyer, you will be a champion of Newt fruit and veg.

The Newt has a new Hydroponic Glasshouse and a Mushroom House on site, plus fields of veg, a produce processing area and a whole team dedicated to growing fresh produce. This is an exciting time to join the fresh produce team as we set up a new Greengrocer Department to supply the Estate and our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality checking all orders when they arrive, committing to the highest standards of quality for every piece of fresh produce that is used on the Estate
  • Picking and packing for retail and hospitality sites including splitting large orders into retail / hospitality packaging and packing amazing Veg Boxes.
  • Ensuring all veg that goes into our shops is in punnets and labelled with barcodes.
  • Stock control ensuring excellent records are kept - ordering, invoicing, inter-siting and receipting stock (in conjunction with the Fresh Produce Buyer).
  • Working in the large F&V fridge and keeping the area clean and tidy.
  • Continuously improving standards for packaging and delivery.
  • Working continuously to improve food waste levels via good stock storage and rotation.

What we can offer

  • A positive workplace environment with opportunities to develop both personally and professionally.
  • Stay in shape with our complimentary use of our gym and wellbeing classes
  • Look after your wellbeing with complimentary access to our Spa and swimming pools and our exclusive benefit of 50% of Spa Treatments.
  • Enjoy shopping in both our shops on estate and online with 30% discount for all our colleagues and free delivery for any online purchases.
  • Discover exclusive perks with our Discounted hotel stays for staff, accompanied by a fantastic 30% discount at our restaurants.
  • The opportunity to ensure your views are heard and shape the future of the business via our Employee Engine Room.
  • Complimentary garden membership for the Newt and our partner gardens including the Eden Project, Kew Gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan
  • Complimentary meal whilst on shift, created using fresh produce from our estate by our dedicated staff food chefs
  • We value your hard work and recognise your achievements through our colleague recognition programme "Newt Awards" with the opportunity to achieve a variety of amazing rewards including a complimentary Hotel Stay.
  • Support from our Employee Assistance Programme for both yourself and your family
  • A team that knows how to have fun with regular team engagement activities including monthly Gather and Grow Motivational Speakers and our regular fun squad events, which include activities such as Go-Karting and Wine Tasting, to name but a few.
  • Up to 30 days annual leave each year for our full-time team
What we're looking for

  • Experience working with Fresh Produce highly desirable
  • Operational warehouse experience desirable
  • Organised, efficient with attention to detail and a keen eye for quality
  • A person who will take pride and ownership in their area
  • No experience of Sage necessary but intermediate IT skills highly beneficial
  • Some basic ordering experience desirable

Where you'll be working - The Product Team

The Product Team is responsible for every aspect of product across the estate covering retail in our shops and online, products for hospitality, events and wholesale. The team includes buying and merchandising, new product development, packaging and procurement.

The Product Team will work alongside the various internal departments to help to develop the product proposition of the key pillars of the estate: hotel, gardens, visitor attractions as well as the butchery, creamery, productive growing and bakery, adding products that complement these pillars and fit with The Newt's vision: prioritising seasonality, sourcing or producing the highest quality products, and using local suppliers where possible.

Who are we - The Newt in Somerset

Nestled within an expanse of rolling fields and steeped in ancient history, our luxury country estate stands as a haven of refined elegance, inviting guests to explore acres of captivating gardens, meandering pathways, and enriching exhibitions - accessible 364 days a year for our members.
