We are currently looking for an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Corporate Policy Officer (Equalities and Welsh Language) to join our team.

As part of the team, you will be involved in all aspects of the council’s corporate equality and Welsh language policies, their development and implementation, helping support elected members and senior officers as well as coordinating meetings of various officer groups.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with Elected Members, senior officers and staff from both within the council and partner organisations to support the council in achieving strategic objectives and meeting its statutory duties in relation to Equalities and Welsh language - including interpreting and advising on key legislation.

The main duties of the post:

to monitor, review and support policies and strategies and to support the development of new policies and strategies as required (corporate and service specific).

to ensure relevant training and advice is provided to assist service managers and decision-makers to embed the council’s Integrated Impact Assessment tool.

to provide advice and guidance on Equalities and Welsh language to council staff, Elected Members and other key stakeholders.

to promote the use of the Welsh language in Neath Port Talbot, both within the council and local communities.

to strengthen partnership working with a range of diverse community groups

You will have experience in/of:

working at a strategic level within a corporate Equalities and Welsh language function.

preparing strategic plans and policies.

providing advice and guidance on legislation, including The Equality Act 2010, Equality Act (Wales) Regulations 2011, and The Welsh Language Standards (No. 1, Regulations) 2015

presenting complex information in relation to Equalities and Welsh language to suit differing audiences.

Welsh language skills are essential for this post - fluent in speaking, reading and writing. If your language skills are a little rusty, we can provide support on appointment for you to reach this level.
